Nice!!! I sold the wing and bought the Tenere for Deadhorse and some of the passes in Colo. I checked Deadhorse off the list last month and hope to start on the passes next year but I think I'll start with some of the easier ones first.

Great to see what the bikes capable of though. Thanks for posting!!

Thanks for the ride, scenery, vertigo 8^/ Few questions for you. Looks like you are near Sacramento? What were the off-road suspension settings for the 2015 ES? Looked like the ES handled well off-road?

"when in doubt throttle out" ::008:: awesome video and ride!

Thanks for sharing! Nice video work!! Did the southwest section of this route a few weeks back but stuck to the 'easy' alternate sections as I was 2-up with the wife and we were alone. We're little folks and not sure if we can pick the bike up.. lol. The S-10 is indeed a great dirt bike, albeit heavy. A couple years back a buddy and I went down to Baja and you definitely live by 'when in doubt, throttle out'!! ::008::

Awesome video. I would never have thought of going up Ophir on a pig. I have been there with a jeep and have done all the other passes on the east side of 550 with 4x4 quads and just recently with my RZR. I haven't done Black Bear yet. You guys are obviously great riders!

Your video editing skills are off the chart. Thanks for sharing this. At 3:39 and 4:49, I found myself puckering. I was just out there for three weeks but I brought two bikes, my S10 and a WR250R. I did some of the treacherous passes, but on the smaller bike. You guys really earned my respect. ::008::

When I was out there for Westfest, someone said the owner of Wolfman Luggage rode Black Bear Pass on a S10. I did it on the 250 and the downside was outrageous. Of course, it poured rain as soon as we started our descent. ::025:: If I had my S10, it would still be up there.

I'm leaving the tenere home, everyone else is on a Tiger, GS or GSA, I'll be on the KLR, and happy to be on the "cheap" bike.

If you were to do it again, and had teh option of a smaller/lighter bike, would you still take the Tenere?

we are out of Livermore CA, not to far from Sacramento

I have received lots of questions about the electronic suspension (EAS) on the newer bike, well start the hate mail now! but hear is how I feel

The NON EAS will sit higher when adjusted for more pre-load and the bike will bottom out less
the EAS model as more to break and much more costly to fix
the NON EAS model has room under the seat for tools!
the NON EAS caries less LBS
the non EAS model takes 30 seconds to adjust the suspension (that's 30 seconds in 9 days of riding)

EAS is just a gadget, you can blast me for that!

one phrase you would constantly hear on the trip was (traction control 2) a reminder to set this every-time you start the bike (I wish it would just stay there) Traction control 2 is your friend, with just enough wheel spin to work in the dirt but not too much to get the back end too far out of control, Love it!

ABS WOW Yamaha knows how to make ABS, (I have installed a ABS OFF switch) I left ABS on the entire trip, through the Rain, hail, and steep rocky sections with water flowing over the top, wish I had video of that section! anyway ABS works great!
the ABS on my GS is a death trap, by comparison, thank god I can turn that off!

Most of the Colorado passes were better on my 250. I had both bikes with me but got into some trouble a couple times on the S10. The only time I really missed the S10 was when we had a three-hour slab ride back to camp in the pouring rain. That sucked on my 250 and my partner's DRZ.

Here are some quick notes on the Co passes I rode.

Engineer - either
Cinnamon - either
Black Bear - 250 only
Cement Creek - 3/4 up the S10 was fine, then it got sketchy
Italian Creek - 250 was better choice for me
Alpine Loop - S10 was good
Sapinero - Blue Mesa - S10 was fine

Incredible! Thanks for showing the capabilities the Tenere. I would love to do this. If you do it again, I'd take you up on an invite. I'm up in Redding, CA and enjoy taking the Tenere off the pavement.
