Hi Folks. Need a bit of advice please.
I checked my 'tea bag' fuel filter today. That's the one inside the fuel pump. Needless to say that it is well overdue being replaced (see the pic)
I've ordered a new one but it will take a month to arrive. I was a bit nervous to try and remove the current one because I couldn't figure out how to do it. Looks like it has a metal circular clip that holds it in place. If anyone can give advice on how to remove/replace that tea bag filter (preferably with pics) I'd very much appreciate it.
Thanks in advance folks!20200628_145208.jpg

I didn't think you could buy the 'tea bag' fuel filter as a separate item.

Do you have a part number?

Many thanks

I asked at yamaha once and it isn't sold seperately. There are other aftermarket options.
Yamaha says it is absolutely NOT necessery to change it unless you use contaminated fuel.
They have never done it here at the biggest dealership here in the netherlands.

So i am confused because of the filters i see now and then on this forum.
I won't change mine untill i get problems (i only use premium quality fuels).

Thanks Rob. I never seem to be able to find what I want when searching on here. That is a great post which I remember seeing ages ago. Sadly he still doesn't say how to actually remove the tea bag. I dont want to force mine off and can't figure it out yet.
To the other posters....
YES you can buy the filter. I've just ordered 2 and I'm pleased I did coz mine is really beyond cleaning/using again

I got the two Hongwin filters through Amazon. Ordered March 24, received June 1. Got it installed about June 6.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing when I got mine, how do you get it off. I've seen several posts on replacing the filter but never seen anything that actually tells you how to get the filter off the pump.

I did not see this when I did the installation but look at the thread that Rob gave you a link to. See the first line of the first reply, prowlnS10 says it is a press on design.

With the metal band around the neck I figured it had to be just pressed on so I got a screwdriver and gently started prying up around the edges but it was on tight so I pried a little harder and just kept working around the edge and it finally came off. The new one was also very tight going on. I just pushed it on, harder than I wanted to, I was afraid I might break the new filter.
