Tankbag Fitment and Comparison

I'm looking at my options for a tankbag to mount on a Super Tenere and I'm not positive what will fit and what will not fit. On my old V-Strom, I used a Wolfman Rainier tankbag and I was always pretty pleased with it but unfortunately sold it with the bike in 08/2011 and haven't looked at options since.

Does anyone know for a fact that the Wolfman Rainier tankbag fits on the S10 or not? Also, what about the "Enduro" bag from Bags-Connection? It appears that it is only available in strap-on or magnetic base but I like the thought of an electrified gas cap mount. That's all new to me though and I know nothing about what my bag options are for that kind of mount. Basically I want a big (not enormous) tear drop shapped tank bag with a clear map pouch on top and plenty of pockets. Ideas?

I have the same Wolfman bag on my KLR and thought it would translate well to the SuperTen. However, it just did not "fit right." My SuperTen came from its previous owner with a Bags Connection "City" (a misnomer for and ADV bike, eh?) tankbag that I have grown to really like. The clip-on. clip-off system is great and keeps the bag off the tank. I would love it is SW Motech made a blank platform with the foot for the gas cap connection so that I could fab up a way to put my Wolfman on the ST. I might try to fab something up, but for now, I am going with the Bags Connection bag that came with the bike. My bag is unwired so I can't speak to the power aspects. I can tell you that it is smaller than the Wolfman. There is no clear pouch on the top for maps and it also has a cell phone pocket on the top that was made for phones back in the 1990's. No Android or iPhone today will fit the pocket so it is a waste. YMMV...

Good information, thanks. Yeah, I really liked my Wolfman bag as well and am pretty bummed that it may not fit well. I'm not too concerned with having a powered mount because I usually do my own engineering when it comes to powering up my bag the way I want it to be...besides, half the fun of getting a new bike for me is all the time I'll be spending in the garage trying to figure out what I want to do and how!

Anyways, I'll keep looking for options. It looks like folks are pretty happy with the Yamaha tank bag. Hopefully the dealer has one I can look at or perhaps someone can post more pics of it for interior and exterior shots. The Yamaha website leaves a lot to be desired in terms of pics, and I could not gather a good feel for the bag from what they provide.

There are a few more threads on here that you will find with a search. I posted some pics of the city tankbag with map pouch.

I'm currently using a Wolfman Rainier and I really like it. It works well, and seems to fit the tank well. Although this might be a different version of the Rainier. Rider preference I suppose. Good luck on whatever you choose.

If you check the sale forum you will find a recent thread with some excellent pics of the OEM tank bag.

I used a Bag's Connection City on my GS, it was good, but not as nice or versatile as a Wolfman. I have the Explorer Lite on my S10, perfect fit in my opinion. For long trips, i expand the top and use a Nalgene hydration pouch inside.

The Yamaha tank bag works great for me. Lots of room and fits like a glove. I'll try to find a pic to post up. May have one here somewhere.

Another happy Yamaha tankbag customer. You can't beat the price RockyMtnATV has for this piece.

Not to hijack the thread too much, but does anybody know where you can buy the bottom-of-the bag ring for the Bags Connection system? I have emailed Twisted Throttle to see if they have this bit as a separate item since it is not listed at the site. They have the ring - both powered and not - that attach to the gas filler area, but they do not list the ring that mates to this one that is found on the bottom of the bag.

I had the grand idea of trying to fab up a way to stiffen the bottom of my Wolfman bag and attach one of those rings to it. Then I can pop which ever bag I want - the bags Connection City or the Wolfman Explorer - depending on what I want for the day.

If you want a really great quality bag with lots of options get a bag from RKA. www.rkaluggage.com I got the InCharge with the dash and the internal wiring for power. I have my iPhone, my Garmin 60csx GPS and a GMRS radio mounted on the dash. They have different sizes with and without the electronics. And you can order colors to coordinate you Super T's colors.
Enjoy.

I've seen these base and lock ring assemblies for sale on Amazon. No Tenere specific model was listed when I was considering this but I read that the FZ1 or any other Yamaha ring should fit correctly.

Treemuncher - I checked Ebay with no luck. The part I want is not the ring that attaches to the bike's gas cap rim - what I want is the other part that mounts to the bottom of the bag that then clicks into the ring mounted to the bike's gas cap rim. So I doubt that it needs to be bike specific. I may try to call TT to ask about it.

A call to TT would be a good idea. At one time they would not provide the bag portion of the ring without buying the bag. Maybe things have changed.

Update.... Twisted Throttle does not sell the bottom-of-the-bag ring as a separate item due to some agreement that they made with the manufacturer. So if I want this ring, it looks like I'll need to buy a used bag and then scavenge the ring off of it.

As near as I can tell they want to stop all us crafty do-it-yourselfers from fabbing up creative ways to mount items other than the Bags Connection items to our tank rings. Seems a bit shortsighted to me as they could sell plenty of those rings, I would think.

I thought that might be the case. I had asked some years ago about that very thing.

Even though I have used the Bags Connection tank bags on previous bikes, I am looking at other options this time. I really like the looks of your setup. Can you tell me how you have attached the bag at the front?
