I use a Wolfman Expedition for traveling. It looks big in the profile shot, but I don't notice it when riding. I have a Camelbak Unbottle, which I think is 3 liters. I put it in the tank bag with a bunch of other necessities. Route the hose out the forward left corner with the zipper and tuck the mouthpiece into a D-ring on the bag. It's easy to get a drink without fumbling, most of the time and the hose pretty much stays out of the way.

For weekday commuting, the tank bag stays at home. I use a couple of wire ties to pin the buckle ends of the straps together (top set and bottom set) so they remain available but contained. I have been using this setup for about 5 years. Worked the same on my DL650, pre-Tenere.

With the tank bag mounted, at fuel stops, I simply unclip the top two buckles and lay the bag back on the seat. Easy peasy.
