Take TopCase off bike when trailering......

Hauled bike home from Arkansas, 400 miles. Somewhere along the way, the Yamaha topcase opened up, nevermind it was locked. The lid bounced/blew in the wind until it broke the 2 stays that hold it from falling forward. I was lucky that the Airhawk seat pad fell on trailer floor and somehow did not blow away. Also, insurance papers, gloves, still in box.

Now, the question is, what were those stays attached to? The other ends appear to be attached to a screw into plastic, but not sure.

Thanks for any ideas on repairing attachment point for the stays!!! There is just a small hole left where they used to attach....

They are small screws that barely grab ahold of the plastic. I took mine out not long after I started using the box and one rattled loose. Not sure why they need to be there anyway. I much prefer them gone. Lid opens further and sits on the rear seat giving way more room to pack the box. Take the stays off and try it for a bit without. If you don't like it, figure out a larger screw setup that will actually grab that plastic inside the box.

Trikepilot, Thanks for helping me "think out of the box"!
Never occurred to me it mite be better without the stays.
Going to try as you suggested. It does lay on the seat nicely..... O:)
