Hi,
I wanted to share my experiences with motorcycle navigation via tablet.
Perhaps my solution can inspire one or two people.
I have never owned a real navigation device. In the RD250 days I drove with a map. With the TRX I then navigated with the smartphone and Google maps. This proved to be a success and was initially used on the S10 until my charging socket on the smartphone broke. At the same time, my girlfriend, who rides in the back, said that the smartphone was too small for her because she also wanted to see more from behind in case I missed something. So I did a lot of research and looked at solutions. The most elegant solution seems to be the carpe iter pad. But it is also the most expensive solution. The problem with all devices is of course the waterproofness and the charging option. Based on my previous experience, charging with USB is out of the question. Also, charging with USB is not waterproof. Many devices such as the Active Tab or the carpe iter charge with pogo pins. Here too, I have read in various German forums that there are supposed to be problems in the rain and the pins wear out and then no longer have a proper connection. So the only option for me is inductive charging. Unfortunately, there is currently no 8" outdoor tablet that has inductive charging.
I have decided to go for an Ulefone Armor Pad 8 for now. I don't charge it on the bike at all. When the battery is full and the display is at the brightest level, the battery lasts about 9-10 hours with Google maps. That's enough for me.
I chose the Holder 2.0 (holder4bikers.eu) as a mount. A very solid piece of equipment.
As a little gimmick, I attached the carpe iter Bluetooth adventure controller to the handlebars so that I could scroll on the map without taking my hands off the handlebars. I am very happy with the setup and can only recommend it. If an 8" tablet with inductive charging comes out at some point, I can simply retrofit it. So now I have all the options. I don't have any good pictures of it at the moment, but I can share them if needed.
Lots of words, but I hope it helps with the decision.
Best regards, Jannik
