I was introduced to phone navigation when Honda added Android Auto to my 2018 Goldwing in 2021, up until then I only used Garmin zumo. I then bought a Samsung s21 and a data package to use on my Goldwing, running android auto and Waze along with amazon music. On the Goldwing, the phone needs to be connected to the bikes data port, AA will not work wireless. Last year we replaced our 2016 vehicle with a 2023 Jeep with their latest nav package and wireless phone charger, and I use it with Waze and amazon music. The Carpuride now allows me the same features on my T12 and Harley, as it’s easy to move from one bike to the other (both bikes have an extra Ram ball for mounting it) and Carpuride comes with 2 wire harnesses.
So, comparing my three applications;
On the Honda, it’s a bit of a nuisance to always connect the phone and in the proper sequence to get everything to pair, but when working it is nice to be able to use left handlebar controls to access Waze and music (Honda does not have a touch screen). Even with the phone plugged in all the time, it barely keeps up with battery charge. If it’s at 50% in the morning it would not yet be fully charged at the end of the day.
With the Jeep, the phone will actually go dead on the wireless charger, I have to plug it in after several hours of driving. With my long legs I need the seat all the way back which makes me reach to use the touch screen, and take my eyes off the road. Steering wheel controls would be better for me.
With Carpuride, my fully charged phone will go 3-4 hours while in my pocket. I have a charge cord inside my tank bag when needed and the phone will go to full charge within a few hours while using Waze and music. Again, the touch screen is a nuisance, particularly since it doesn’t work with any of my gloves, and have to take my eyes off the road.
