im out of this thread ::008:: i just thought it would be a good idea on my part to get some t-shirts done. i hope u guys get them sorted, im gonna do my own 8)
as theres no interest really anyway :)

I'm sorry if I helped run you off, spasm. If you're gonna make some shirts like the one in reply #31, I'll go in for a couple. But you're gonna need permission from Yamaha for the guy on the back I would imagine. R

who owns the board? They should make them and all proceeds should go to the website and keeping it active and going strong. I would order one.:)

This is the main concerned that's run me off from having anything produced. I'd hate to get a bunch of shirts printed and then find out they can't be sold due to some copyright infraction.

Who here has experience in such matters and can lend advice?

I sure wish I could help. I'll keep thinking if we know anybody in copyright laws ...
Got to say imo I love the idea of a forum based shirt or logo etc
Thank you for starting this thread Spasm-!!

I don’t have legal advice to offer on intellectual properties, but I know who the person at Yamaha is that handles this sorta thing. PM sent on that.

On getting stuck with printed product, it would seem that the best way to avoid that would be to use a print-on-demand shop like cafépress and then they handle distribution too. Here’s an example of a store that you can look at that another forum (Harley related) put up on cafepress. Click. There are others; this is just the only good example I have to offer.

No direct experience, but know it can get a little sticky when dealing with real product names and registered logos. For example, the Honda Pilot forum had to change their name from HondaPilot to Piloteers due to a hand-slap from Mother Honda. I don't know if Yamaha is as picky or not.

On the one hand Yamaha may not mind as they see us as free marketing for their bike, on the other they my see potential lost profits and demand we stop. Asking for permission seems a safer course than begging forgiveness IMMHO.

You never want to market anyone's trademark without prior permission. Companies get really testy about that. You could get your pee pee whacked big time. R

I don't think the Tourage man(sp) is a copyright of Yamaha. Could be wrong, but I've seen it on stickers other than Yamaha related.
I agree with the Cafe Press idea. If we agree on a design, they could make it and sell individually.

I could be all wet about this, and somebody will correct me if I am.. ::025::

Re: T-SHIRTS

I would gladly buy a couple of shirts once the design is finalised. My preference would be a black shirt with a small forum logo on the front and something like the Tuareg dude on the back.

Keep it subtle, simple and tasteful.

Regards,

Matt

::026:: or two on Monty's post. Would also like the choice of long or short sleeves.

I like it!!! What size are the decals? I'm VERY interested!!
That IS cool. My thoughts are that it would be neat to replace the lion head and "Singapore" with something more fitting to North America. Keep the design going for world unity, ya know? ;)

How about something more like( Ride The World Super Tenere). That way it is not specific to North America and our bros across the pond can join in..

Well, I've been giving this a lot of thought, and if you guys want to use my picture on a shirt, I'm okay with that. We can discuss royalties, but I'll keep them really low. Let me know ... ::008:: R :-*

I will pipe in since I did a shirt run here for this forum awhile back. It is very time consuming to start!!! I also modified the origianl Tenere Sand Dunes some so there would be no legal issues against me, while trying to keep the look of what the bikes come with. I will have to dig to see where my original posts were. I also learned that we do not want to have the image color printed onto a shirt, as they will fade quickly. A better solution is of course screen printing.
I too like the idea of a forum based theme, and that was my thinking sort-of when I quickly made up my drawing for the shirts.

can we get a mod to maybe post a new thread sticky or something with a poll so we can get an idea people interested in buying a shirt? It might give us a better idea of true interest.
