I have my trusty home-made manometer that I have had for years from my Strom that I used over the weekend for the new XT. Got me to thinking I should upgrade to something better.

The Harmonizer is at the top of my list right now. Seems easy to use, accurate and somewhat more durable than some others. I was wondering if anyone here has used it yet?

Dalara and Japako, I thought I remembered you guys had one. What do you guys think?

Any input from members that have the other tools too?

I have not used mine yet. I want to get past the 600 miles before I do. Going out this weekend and will try to get some miles on. ::26::
I'm also waiting to hear what kind of mpg you and others are getting after the mod.

After reading the thread on ADVrider, the Harmonizer looks like a good one. So good in fact that I placed my order!

Sounds good Rod. I will probably be following in your tracks soon with my order.

I have an old Motion Pro mercury model from my XS650 days, still works as well as anything I've tried. Sooner or later, I'll replace it.

Be careful with it and keep it forever.. That is a good one.. I have a newer Motion Pro, it does good but not like old school mercury!

I have a motion pro mercury but I have to admit it doesn't work any better than the the one I made years ago with a yard stick and atf.

I put a small valve at the bottom of the yard stick for a damper, it was easier to read than the motion pro.

I know what you mean, I purchased a like new 74 Kawasaki Z1 900 dirt cheap because the guy ran the RPM's up and then cut the throttle sucking the mercury into the motor locking it up. :'( $350 for the bike, $200 in parts and much labor later I had a new original Z1.

Wished I had it today along with the other one I had. :(

It is good, but you have to be sure you don't let the engine ingest the mercury....does wonders for them. Liquids are incompressible, and metallic liquids just ruin things. I also have quite a bit of mercury (don't tell the Sierra Club) from older Honeywell thermostats that I keep around in case it needs a refill. The biggest problem with the mercury is high vac engines: it pulls enough up out of the reservoirs that it ends up with air bubbles on the bottom. That gives false readings if you don't notice. I suspect that you should drain the mercury and clean the tubes with solvent every so often.

My stuff lasts me forever. I have my tools from 1965 that I still use, and tools from Dad from the 30s, 40s and 50s that I still use. So until it flat out fails or becomes obsolete, it will remain fine. I even have stuff from my days as a Yamaha Mechanic and it still looks new. Looks like museum pieces in my tool chest. I'm sort of a museum piece myself. Wife says she married a young guy and now she has this wreck...so true.

BTW: there's nothing stopping you from using mercury in the newer tube type sync tools. Even thick oil would work well. What I like about mercury is that it responds very fast to intake pulses. You can watch it jump up and down with the intake events at idle. A number of years ago, I was asked to properly dispose of a bunch of old style round Honeywell thermostats. The electrical switch is a mercury switch. I carefully removed the mercury from all, and still have it in a small plastic container. I have another set of the hard plastic tubes as well. Between the mercury and the tubes, I should be good until I croak, or the EPA comes after me with a big net. I'm sure the NSA has already alerted them of this post. I'm barring the door right after this post. I'm going now to watch for the black, silent helicopters......

I have not done the TB sync on my Tenere yet, but when I do I will be using the same homemade manometer I made for the V Strom. It's cheap and has always served me well. It's pretty fancy, I painted the yard stick bright yellow and used ATF fluid. The red fluid against the yellow background makes for a nice contrast! ::018::

I bought a Harmonizer. I've used to twice, but couldn't figure out how to utrn the damn thing off. Grok helped me get over the ID-10-T issues. In short it works great.
