::014:: I do it on the move.No need to pull the clutch. Just close the throttle and change on the over-run. ::025::

Yup, it only requires the throttle to be closed at time of switchover.
I do that too, but I read on my owner's manual " ! WARNING DO not change the D-mode while the vehicle is moving"

What does Yamaha know about the Big XT? ::025::

I am not sure what thats about. I do know it does switch with the throttle closed, but mine seems to only switch with throttle closed under around 10MPH and not at any speed over that.

Guess I missed that part in the manual. I've never found mine to be speed sensitive. I've been able to close the throttle and change at any speed I have tried.

The warning to not do it makes complete sense from a liability stand point. Rolling off the throttle with traffic behind you will eventually get you run over so, warn people to not do it. Common sense is not allowed in modern circles so we must tell everyone that something could hurt them because if we don't then that person who didn't tell you that jumping off a bridge with 40 crocodiles below is bad for you you could sue them. God forbid personal responsibility come in to play! ::010:: ::010:: ::010::

Mine allows change irrespective of speed. Roll off, change mode, continue on.

::26:: yup, roll-off and switch, roll-on and go... any speed. If you don't want to lose any ground speed - pull the clutch and roll-off and switch. ::001:: I have done both maneuvers at 180-190 kph, no problem

I'm sure the under 10 MPH is not in the manual but mine will switch at that speed and not above for some reason? ???

maybe a stupid question, but are you guys talking about the 'S' and 'T' modes OR the 'TC1/TC2/OFF' modes?

'S' and 'T' is done easily by close of throttle - have not tried the TC whilst moving....

Sport and Touring , and I do it at any speed . Usually when I have some twistys coming up I'll toss it in S, otherwise I leave it mostly in T.

I'm the same as most folk here, close throttle, change mode - any speed. That's on a UK bike, seems to be no variation on that functionality across the markets.

The Ténéré defaults to TC setting 1 at every engine start, but at least the two drive modes, Sport and Touring, latch beyond power cycles. Better yet, it’s possible to change drive modes easily and on the go; you just have to remember to have the throttle fully closed or the change won’t take. This strikes me as reasonable, simple and safe.

Nice day today so I took the big XT out and did some tests on the mode switch. It looks like I was not closing the throttle for a long enough time before I hit the switch because if I took my time after throttle close it would switch every time. If I did it quick it would not.

So I guess I was WWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRR....I was WWWWWRRRRrroooooo........ Incorrect about my bike. :-[
