Hi Greg. I should be ok for that. If you let me know your route east I'll pick up with you on route. Great lunch venue. I'll show you the location of of a couple of long byeways very near the lunch stop. One is Ox drove and 'tother is Shaftesbury drove. We can do these when it dries up a bit in the Spring.
Let me know on where to meet. Pm or call. Cheers Mark

Excellent..... how about Lyme Regis.... by the chip shop ?? Bottom of the hill ? We've done a few gnarly trails over the winter weekends .... my self and andy did a few drives on the Somerset levels and a real gnarly bugger in Cornwall with the stickiest muddy sand you've ever seen...

I was on my tiger with K60 scouts needless to say they didn't cope and I fell off much to the amusement of the others!

Yes the chip shop at the bottom of Lyme Regis will be fine. Let me know a time. My partner with a MG Stelvio may like to come along but may also be working so it's a maybe from her.
Thanks

Hi Greg.
Can you let me know the route to Compton Abbas so I can join you. Or I'll meet you at the airfield if you have ETA.
Cheers Mark.

I've done a route and the timings...

I'll be leaving Bridge Motorcycles at 10am after my coffee and bacon sarnie... ::025::

Should be at the chippy at Lyme Regis for 11am.. (I'll be on that little hard standing behind the chippy in between the two bollards..)

We should then be at the airfield for 1230...

Mark.. Have a look at the route and pick a spot to meet.. :)

We may have a KTM and an Explorer with us.. Or it could just be us lot..

Looking forward to it..

I had a good ride out yesterday with Greg from Lyme Regis Dorset England
( famous for the use of its sea wall being used in the film The French Lieutenants Woman)
Had a leisurely ride to meet another Mark (Poole XTZ) on his '12 white world crosser and his wife Sarah on her 800 Tiger at Compton Abbas airfield near Shaftesbury Dorset. Great food and conversation. On the way there Greg and I used some minor back roads that had a lot of mud/debris in places and it was good to feel the slip occasionally just to remind me to be aware. Launched our bikes a couple of times coming off a lip of a hill or hump back bridge just to be a bit of a hooligan for a second keeping us young which we aren't! Even did a flooded road.
After lunch Greg and I ventured towards Alfred's Tower near Stourhead Gardens and via an off road track called Win Green byway to the car park just to try it. We'll do the whole length another day once it's dries out a bit and put on more suitable tyres.
We tried a nice c road through Stourton Woods again with some stuff to slip on. Kept us both on out toes!
Finally headed home past the venue for the Bristol Classic bike show at Shepton mallet Somerset and got home just before dark with me avoiding the rain eventhough I expect Greg got a soaking going home to Devon?
Thanks Greg for organising and I look forward to another ride maybe down in Devon.
I look forward to seeing the few pictures taken?

Excellent ride with good company and meet a few new friends...!

I had a bimble up through Ottery from my place and got to Lyme Regis in time for a coffee in the sunshine... Had a chat with a older couple who were admiring the bike parked up and we chatted about old Triumphs and how the Japanese cornered the market in the 80/90's..!!

Met Mark and decided to use a combination of my tried and tested route with his local knowledge and adaptions.... A good thrash to the airport where indeed a few airborne moments were had over the bridges..(I'll put my camera on next time).. Lots of gravel washed onto the roads from fields but no major dramas..

I noticed my bike sliding around more than Marks especially crossing the slimy bit in the middle of the lane.. Also very little grip on the gnarly stuff.. Close inspection showed the rear down to the wear marks..!! New tyres to be ordered..

Met PooleXTZ and his Mrs PooleXTZ (Tiger 800XC) at the airport for a very good lunch and a good chin wag... (We were there till 3pm!!) Them We took some pics and parted company.. Mark showed me a gravel byway leading up and from a carpark which looked interesting....

We posed for the cameras going down Zig Zag hill, a couple of special Porches were driving up and it looked like a cameraman was doing a shoot for a magazine....

Came across my favourite type of road .... A flooded one.... !! Great fun... :D

Mark warned me about Stourton woods... But it wasn't as bad as the picture in my head!!! Good fun.. Slippery but good fun...

The light was fading to the shortest route home via Taunton for me.. We said our goodbyes around the Ilmister area and I headed towards Taunton... Yes I got dumped on on the M5 all the way home... Standing water and a few vehicles aqua planing on the M5 but thanks to Mr Rukka and Mr Sidi we got home safe and dry....

The next one will be Somerset and Devon taking in Exmoor, with some gnarly lanes and i'll find some bridges!! ;D

A Great Day..
