Like the look of the unit ::008::

I currently use a car sat-nav in a waterproof holder - I know I am a skinflint, but I got a £250 car sat-nav on sale at £100, quite a bargain as a bike dedicated unit with similar features would have been £450 - I then gave it to her indoors as a present and "borrow it" when we go touring ::008::

Is this unit only capable of mounting the crazily priced bike dedicated GPS units, or could I whack my car unit holder onto it, curently I have a ram mount system bolted to the Bars so it sits just below the clocks - not bad and very cheap, but I would pay the price for this mount as long as I do not have to pay a stupid amount of cash for a "bike" sat-nav, which I refuse to do as Garmin and Tom Tom seem to think all bikers are stupid enough to pay twice as much as car drivers for essentially the same bit of kit.

The mounting surface of this GPS holder is flat and has the AMPS hole pattern. What is the AMPS hole pattern you ask?: http://www.twistedthrottle.com/article/view/446 it looks like this (Sorry I didn't have a shot of the S10 without a GPS mounted there):

We sell a bunch of bags, boxes and cradles that you can mount to the plate and drop your device into.

I have an Android phone and use the Bags-Connection Navi bag pouch I would refer to it as water-resistant. I have regularly ridden in light rain with little fear but frankly, I would pull it out of the pouch before the skies really let go.

I guess what I am trying to say is that yes, there are options to hold your device using this GPS mount. If you need help figuring out the best solution call our toll-free number at 855-255-5550 - Kev

I installed this mount last week and used a ram mount to attach a Nuvi 1450... I went on a awsome 500 mile trip from Nashville through the East TN Mountains and back and the mount was rock solid.. it makes using the GPS easy and convienient.

I'am also one of those who find the stock screen good enough. My question is, where are your power cables once you take of the garmin mount.
Thing is, my power cable (550 Honda) is sealed together with second one wich is a small wired control for zoom and speach.

The mount in question is the upper one. I think you can see what i mean.
I would like to keep the sw mount and the garmin one attached permanently due to the cables wich are not removable. Do i have that option with SW mount? If i don't have, can you folks point me in the right direction.
Tnx in advance

If I understand the question and the function of the Garmin mount then you can leave the mount on the bike and remove the Garmin from the cradle. If this is how the cradle works then you will be fine with this arrangement.

That's correct, i think. I would like to keep it (not the GPS of course) on the bike at all times. But, what about the "quick release" part of the SW mount??
Can this part be somehow modified to become "non-quick release"
I don't have the intention to look over the bike like the hawk over the pray, if you now what i mean.

The easiest thing to do would be to get a steel cable and a pair of ferrules and tie the adapter plate to the GPS mount base.

The ferrules look something like this:

Yyou can tie it to the "extra hole" in the GPS mount. It designed for just such a purpose. Here is a picture of a Garmin cradle attached to an S10 with the GPS mount in question. If you look to the left side of the cradle you can see the hole in it(?).

Tnx Kev. I see it. It's a spartanic method, but better than spending 300$ for something i don't need.

I'm glad I got my point across. Good luck with the mounting and keep us posted as to what you do.

Hi all,

I've just installed my GPS mount. My question is where are you guys running the power cable through? Are you running it straight to the battery, or are you tapping another power cable that turns on only with the key in position. Ideally I would like the power to be cut with the key in the off position.

Thanks!

After market sub-fuse panel. Several nice models out there.

You need a Power Hub.

It has a relay built into it and allows you to choose to power each item always or switched with the key. The best part is that you can change any item connected to the Power Hub from switched to constant by movin gthe fuse for that item to the left or the right. It installs simply and includes everything you need to complete the job.

It works fine with the oem wind deflector. You do have to drill out two holes to a larger diameter, but it's really not a big deal. I just ran the IBR with the SW Moto mount and one on the Twisted Throttle City Bag w/o issues. mostly left the Q\R mount in place, just covered with a bike cover, the tank bag mounted GPS went in the room with me each night.

No issues.

The mount does vibrate a bit over 75 mph, but it depends on tires and road conditions. The combo of the SW mount on the front and the mount on the City bag worked very well for me. ::008::

FWIW, the holes that need to be drilled out are in the wind deflectors, due to the bolt size used with the GPS mount. Some of the vibration I experience may be due to the CalSci med size screen, which has a vent hole in the center. In high winds, I do notice more vibration on the GPS mount.

Does anyone have a picture of what the cradle looks like for a Streetpilot 2730 using this mount? It's old(er) but still works great!
