Will the SW Motec crashbars allow the side panels to come off without unbolting them? Please answer ONLY IF YOU KNOW FOR SURE.

Electrical side easily enough. Radiator side, nope. The cover can be eased just enough to let you get to the tank screw. So far nobody has one where both sides can be removed. Altrider said they will look into it for their case guard next time they have a bike on hand.

ALTrider has checked a bike in AU that has their crash guards on and, you can get to the tank bolts to tilt the tank for service.
You cannot remove the panel for the radiator but that would not be necessary for maintenance. And in my opinion that is as good as it will get, from any manufacture that makes a bar with good protection.

After how they did not protect a bike in Au. I don't count them as a good choice for a crash bar. Granted it was a high speed get off on tarmac, but the side covers on both side got badly damaged. Just my opinion.

Yes they will. Enjoy them...
Japako,

The Altrider bars allow enough access for the tank to be removed, but I have searched and can find no reference that the same has ben tried with the SWMotech crashbars. Do you know someone who has tried this or is this an extrapolation based on the Altrider bars??

Thanks.

I believe I read some time ago, probably on ADV, where Greg (Wasp) stated that he could remove the left side panel enough to get to the bolt to lift the tank with the SW Motech bars. That is all you will be able to do with any of them, except the OEM bars. Tradeoff is the OEM bars do not protect that panel.

I also read the post Fred is referring to and Greg did mention that. I think that Twisted Throttle may have mentioned something about it, but not sure. It is hard to answer these type of questions without owning the bike and the particular accessory. Most of the answers will be hearsay from other people.
And that does not mean it is not true.

This question was asked a month or so ago and I sent a PM to TT asking about side clearance (I also asked for a photo head-on showing clearance).

Kevin replied then that they had not yet had first hand experience with the bars as they were still with the designer in Germany, and would be able to reply, once they had installed them.

Here is the link to the thread:

I was under the impression from Kevin's reply that these were brand-spanking new...otherwise, I would have thought he could have gotten pix of them installed overseas.

If you find out, let us all know please? I'm also interested in the answer.
