g'day everyone

For those that do not know me I rarely post other than a "nice photo" or "let's meet up" zippy response. Also, I am a 2023 Beta 390 owner, 30" inseam that use to take my 1200 down every rabbit trail I could find. I told you all that to tell you I made a decision yesterday......

I took my Tenere to the shop, one of 3 in my area all are small business and I know the owners. This trip was to Fletchers cycle, he is hands down the best machinist, gearhead I know. The mission, new suspension on the Tenere. I have never in my life taken the suspension off and sent it in or had it totally reworked. Why? Well I am 170 to 180 lbs and most bikes come with that set up all ready. So all it is dialing it in....

Back to the Beta, it was purchased in Feb 0f 23 and I have been enjoying the hell out of it for 4 or so months now that it is dialed in. I am kicking around the idea of lowering it, 30" inseam but can decide. I guess it was the old checking book that made the decision for me. I had some extra cash and said to myself lets get that big bitch some new parts. I have grown away from the 1200 and keep getting back on the 390. Well with the ADV season on my horizon and my AR property getting better and better I am going to hit the ADV hard this spring and summer. If I dont like the bike after this then it might get replaced........

Good thing about Fletcher, I have known him for years and he truly understands the entire aspect of setting up suspension. He has the bike and will ride before and after, then make 2 or 3 changes to get it right. He will let me try it out and makes more tweaks as necessary, I am not worried about the cost he has never done me wrong and lives around the corner. He thanked me for bringing him the whole bike.......

KInda excited here as I head out today to AR to clean up after the storms. I should have it back and ready to ride in March.

I'm very interested to see how this goes and your impressions afterward. I jumped into this on the S10 when I hit 100k on the '12 with Touratech in the rear and Ohlins in the front set up for my weight and riding. The differences were noticeable, but not awe inspiring, for my riding. I was less impressed than when I did similar level work to the FJR. I kinda-sorta want to do some work to the XSR700 front end, but can't rationalize the funds, at least for now, and haven't found any decent suspension shops in my area, so learning of Fletcher's intrigues me.

I'm sure upgrading the suspension on the ST will transform how it rides offroad, but as you have realized, lightweight bikes are SO MUCH MORE FUN off-road. I struggle with dropping $2-3k on a new suspension on the ST. For me, the value proposition isn't there.

Regarding lowering the Beta, I say do it. I was anit lowering on my 690, but with a 30-inch inseam, I can barely get one foot to touch the ground, and that gets sketchy AF in technical, high-exposure trails here in Colorado. So, this Spring, I am going to put a very mild lowering link in when I upgrade the springs.

Will be interesting to hear what you have to say after it’s done.
A Corbin seat has helped my reaching the ground issues a lot but for me the Super Tenere is just to heavy for much serious off road stuff. I really should buy one of those kits that are supposed to help when picking up a tipped over bike but I’ve been saying that for years.

That would be BMS (Bill Mayer Saddles A.K.A Legendary Best Motorcycle Seats). Never got to a happy place with them w/multiple re-works. My Russell Day Long was good the first time around, mail order even, both times I used them on two different bikes.

Back to suspension stuff. It can be a slippery slope if you try to do it piecemeal, the new stuff making the other end look even worse. Thus my interest in how you like Fletcher's work.

They typically do two re-works for free. You'll pay shipping. Mine was back when Bill was still alive and doing seats, but I can't tell you if the current guys are better, worse or the same.

picked up the bike today noticeable difference and the cost was not bad at all......the real test will be off road, which is a few weeks away. EricV I think I am going to do the cabin fever ride.....Steve Reno, if you want to "plan" a ride to MO......

Cabin Fever looks like a lot of fun. It will be interesting to hear what route you ride and how you felt the suspension performed. Any love from BMS on the seat?
