One thing I liked about the GS was the way it handled. Can anyone provide any comparisons as to how the compare? How the Tenere holds a line, how rapid right/left transitions feel, perhaps a comparison as to how they handle broken/rough pavement or bumps? I am also keen on how they compare in two up riding and solo with a load of camping gear. Thanks for any insight...I'm trying to read as much as I can but since I've been on BMW's for so long and my last bike was a GS I'm hoping this information may help set my expectations of the Yamaha when it is delivered. Its killing me to have to wait.....

When you are looking at the GS don't think logically. Look at the BMW roundel and imagine the prestige you will feel by owning one. Imagine the close relationship with the dealer for recalls and failures. Imagine...

The new GS is liquid cooled. The BMW's hold their value really well, kinda like a HD. The Bimmers have some way cool tech on them, paraleve and telever suspension. But a guy in my club had three transmissions replaced in his Boxer Cup Replica all under warranty. The third transmission BMW sent downa tech with the new tranny in his car and he installed it. I had a FZ1 that I put 30k miles on it with zero issues. At 25k miles the valves were still within specs.
I think the GS is a nice bike but the cost and maintance and reliability puts me off. Also the Yamaha seems to be very competiantent and is less expensive and of course should be more reliable. The only down side for me is as I mentoned, other than HD and BMW, these bikes seem to depreciate pretty quick. Really not an issue for me since I tend to keep a bike for 5~8 years.

Buying a bike because it has good resale value is like choosing a wife because she will be reasonable in a divorce settlement. Besides low resale is a plus for those who buy used.
