everyone will have to compare on their own use, but:
the OEM is a plastic box, plastic can generally bounce back,
while the motech is an aluminum box, bends and can be bent back, before it breaks...

the OEM has a well designed, minimal frame, which looks very clean when the boxes are removed,
while most after market boxes look like you have a scaffold of steel hanging off the side when the boxes are removed...

if you are going strictly by weight, be sure to include the weight of the mounting bracket...

I use the OEM boxes: I like the clean look, they are waterproof for my needs - torrential downpours - no swimming...
the internal bags are awesome... the boxes and mounts have survived a couple of drops with no bending or breaking, only minor scuffs on the corners...

yes, the OEM boxes ARE overpriced, BUT then IMO all hard boxes for the adventure class ARE overpriced.....

July 2013 I went down on the right and broke the latching mechanism (motorcycle side panel) but the rest is in ok shape. Does anyone have the right side case with a good latching panel?

Are you talking about the plastic panel on the oem cases that locks the case on the upper support? I did something similar but I stripped the case down and glued all the broken plastic parts back together. Apart from a couple of scratches on the outside of the case, nobody would know. Maybe you could do that?

I had the same question as the OP, but didn't find an answer anywhere. Put OEM cases on today, weighed them. 33 lbs total. ~12 lbs each side + 9 lbs for the mounts. For comparison, I weighed my first generation Bumot when those went on my '13, they were 31 lbs total.

I just weighed both of my OEM panniers. The right side is 12 lb 2 oz and the left side is 12 lb 2.5 oz. The mounts are rather small, I doubt they weigh anymore than 4 lb all together. So the complete weight for everything should be about 28 lb.
