I really haven't formed an opinion one way or another about replacing the CCT, either OEM or a manual aftermarket one. Just more or less soliciting some opinions on the necessity of replacing an OEM one when it isn't displaying any symptoms.

No need to change your CCT on '14 and up models. No start-up noise= no problem.
Having said that, if you were to change it, the manual CCT can be changed without removing the valve cover. The OEM is a crapshoot without removing the valve cover. The manual one however, needs adjustment occasionally, or you will end up with the same problem as a failed Gen1 OEM.
Pick your poison.

The big difference is that an OEM CCT can go from zero noise to total failure in a fraction of a second, but with a manual CCT you will start getting some chain noise that will gradually get louder over a long period of time, giving you time to adjust it way before any damage is done.

Man, almost 10 years later and still no real write up/sticky/part numbers on this issue!
Just everyone saying "REPLACE ASAP"
Closest I can find to a write up is

Mine has a loud noise at start up at 17,000 miles and I chalked it up to Valve Tap like my 85 Yamaha Maxim. Dissipates after 2 seconds, after oil pressure builds up
Now you've got me panicking guys!
I've got my service coming up next year at the 24,000 miles valve Adjust so I figured I'd just wait till then....
UNLESS YOU GUYS WANNA FREAK ME OUT (O.O)

These bikes always start with the sound of a box of rocks being shaken, but the key is how fast that goes away. If it is gone in seconds you have nothing to worry about.
