Just to add a little something. When you get a cash register receipt, make a copy of it. I have had problems with them fading over time and not being able to read them. As said above, keep the log book UP TO DATE. I even keep my OEM oil filters for the break in period with the date and mileage on them. Anal I know, but when you pull all the records out, it will end any discussion of who is responsible.
A very good suggestion. Many receipts are thermal paper, so time and heat degrade them. Sitting in the tank bag for a few days can result in blank or unreadably faded receipts.

FWIW - As some data points to the YES warranty questions, I had the 4 year YES on my FJR, so 5 years total. When my warranty was about to expire, I had 90k on the bike and had previously had 2 cam chain tensioners and a semi-recall item, (throttle position sensor). I took the bike in to the dealer because I could hear the CCT going bad again. They warned me that Mother Yamaha might ask for receipts this time, due to the high mileage. They didn't, (I was prepared and had religiously filled out my dealer service section, an additional owner service log, and had a tire log in the back of the owner's manual detailing every tire I've used). For that one last YES claim, they ended up replacing the CCT, O2 sensor and spending a serious amount of time attempting to repair what turned out to be a problem caused by a previous(different), dealer during prior service.(unprovable ). Yamaha was very good to work with and there were no hassles with covered issues or parts. The only dealer service I paid for was valve check/adjustments and the very first service to start off some goodwill with my dealer. The YES is worth it. Especially on a bike that's only been out for a few years and is new to the states.

Tony's price is pretty fair too. My local dealer quoted me a list price of $901 for the 4 year YES. The YES is fully transferable also! If you sell the bike before the warranty is expired, it's a nice perk and selling point to the new buyer.

I read it was glare back to the riders face or field of vision. I think Tony O talked about it when he posted that DOT wasn't allowing them to be used.

I'm guessing that ALL the headlight protectors for ALL bikes are the same way and carry a warning on the package "Not approved for on-highway use".

Two possibilities; either the air gap allows the inner surface of the protector to act as a mirror and reflect back at you, or, as with most plastics, the edge transmits as much light as the surface does. That edge thing can be blacked out with a marker or paint, not sure why that would ban them. I've seen a metal mesh protector available through one of the Euro distributors that I thought would be a functional cool looking item.

I got pulled over for speeding yesterday and when I was being processed a traffic inspector went over the bike. I have had the OEM headlamp protector on the bike since I bought it. The inspector didn't seem to care about it. However, your mileage might vary. On the Euro version, we have parking lights and there is a mild glow back to the riders eyes from the headlamp protector from the parking lights. I do not notice any reflections from the headlamps themselves.

Howdy,
F.Y.I. I know it has been quite awhile since the dealer quoted a price of $66.35 for the Side Deflectors but if you visit his site now they're going for $73.15. Yamaha OEM price is $79.95. If you order from Bike Bandit and use your AMA memebership discount you can get them for $64.06 plus $9 for shipping. Not sure on his shipping cost though it is not free. Another reason to join the AMA!

In most cases your local dealer will meet / beat advertised prices. I recently bought a Arai $610 helmet for $475. Keeping money local means a lot to me.

Hi,
Keeping $ locally means a lot to me too, but at what point do you ask why couldn't the dealer have just given me his best price up front in the first place. Why do I have to ask? I don't get that feeling when I go to the corner grocery store or the local harware store. I'll pay they're slightly higher prices because I feel that if I ask the price isn't going to change, it's already at its minimum and I appreciate the fact they are there and are not trying to screw me.

Don't take this wrong, I agree with you. I gave the local dealer a chance and they beat the price. I do not buy locally all the time but I usually give a local a chance.

No comparison between brick & mortar and internet based sales. In comparison brick & mortar employs many employees, no shipping & handling fees, and has a door you can open and a face you can see. Internet is a warehouse employing few(er), a telephone number and webpage.
