Just thought that I`d introduce myself. I`m currently in the process of selling my 07` BMW GS and hopefully picking up an immaculate 2010 Super Ten with 4k on saturday and I can`t wait...... ::012::
As it comes without luggage I`m currently looking at the some options. I`ve decided on either the OEM kit in annodised black or the Givi Trek system.
As I have no intention of taking it off road I`m leaning towards the OEM system but I`m a little surprised that it would appear that you can`t get a passenger padded back pad to fit on the top box which I find dissapointing.
I don`t suppose any of you far more experienced owners out there have any possible solutions to this problem......... ::008::

Congrats on your new bike. ::008:: I think your going to like it. I would like to see what you think after coming from a GS.

As far as a back pad for the stock top box, I asked my wife would she like one and she said it was not needed. The jackets we use have spine protection and she says that's perfect for her when she does lean against the box. We have just under 5K on ours now and she has spent about 85% of those miles on the Big XT.

Added note:

We came from a loaded FJR with a pad on the top box and she likes the seat and comfort better on the Super Tenere.

Thanks for the welcome guys, really appreciate it.......... ::008::
The reason that I`m keen to find out about the padded back pad for the top box is that my wife has intimated that for the first time in over 30 years she`d like to accompany me on a trip down to Southern Spain early next year and I just want to be able to make her as comfortable as possible. So any hints or tips from anyone would be greatfuly recieved - clean ones of course....... ;D

I too was concerned about a backrest for my wife on the top case. As stated above, the back armor in her jacket, combined with the seating position, she cares not about a backrest. Put it in t mode, get some wireless communication and enjoy the ride. My wife loves the bike almost as much as I do.

Ah well, Super Ten Saturday arrived warm and bright, excitment mounted as my wife and I set out on the journey to see what was hopefully to be my new pride and joy, and I was`nt to be dissapointed the bike was an absolute peach, immaculate in every way. Having spoken to the owner to confirm the neccessary the deal was done and I mounted the Ten with anticipation for the journey home. Deb took the direct route and chose the more scenic route.
WOW - how bloody good is the Ten, responsive, smooth and bloody quick - I absolutly love it - ah well as I neared home travelling down a narrow country lane close to the cottage I rounded a right hander and suddently lane became lane edge which turned into loose gravel which then became - F******** H*** - bumpy grass verge, thorn hedge deep dyke - S*** I flew threw the air with the grace of a brick, smashed through the top of the hedge and followed the Ten into the bottm of the dyke - bugger....... :'(
It took six guys including myself and the recovery driver to get the Ten out of the dyke bottom and on initial inspection the damage appeared to be only superficial - hopefully, it`s now on its way to the insurance companies "recommended repairer" were hopefully it will be treated with care and careressed back onto the "black stuff" for me to enjoy for many a year to come, I`ll keep you all posted as to progress........... :(

Ah that sucks mate, sorry to hear that. They say a large percentage of accidents happen or nearly happen close to home, and you are the second on on this board today!

"I neared home travelling down a narrow country lane close to the cottage I rounded a right hander"

"I was about four miles from home on a 250+ mile ride"

Hopefully you'll get over this minor hiccup quickly and will be back on the S10 before you know it. Just be a bit more bloody careful in future eh? (I'm sure that's nothing compared to what your wife said! ;))

Thanks for that dcstrom, yes your correct the wife was a little upset to say the least and as I was in the process prior to the accident of convincing her to accompany me on the pillion after nearly 30 years - children and all that - but now I`m not sure, I`ll have to tread very, very carefully once the S10 is back on the road - ah well I live in hope.
Thanks again mate.

Hi all, just thought that I`d give you all the latest in my Super10 accident. The bike was taken to a local Yamaha dealer in readyness for the insurance engineer`s inspection. Then on Friday I got a phone call for said insurance company who informed me that as I`d done over £6k`s worth of damage, forks, frame, engine etc., they`ed decided to right her off - bugger and damn. :'(
All I can say is that was without doubt the shortest serious love affair that I have ever had and once the settlement figure comes through from the insurance company I will be searching long and hard for another Super10 so the affair can continue............ ::008::

Hmm - that seems like a pretty low number to qualify for a write-off - less than 50% of new price. Is that typical in the UK? Anyway, good for you - I think? You will have a new bike but it cost you the insurance excess plus a rate increase next year?

Good luck with round 2!
