Went on a long ride last week, parked the bike when I got back and today it won't start! Looked at the gas and it was all but out.... don't think I left it that way so someone may have siphoned gas out (just strange). So put in about a gallon of gas, brought the bar up to 1/4 but still just grinds. Doesn't burp or catch and almost start, just grinds. Full battery, at least for a little while yet. Checked the side stand, kicked it down and up a couple of times. Checked the off switch, and it was in the right position, and moved it up and down a couple of times to make sure it wasn't stuck.

What I was doing to the bike prior to that was installing a Kisan headlight modulator. Very straight forward, just unhooking a wire above the battery and clicking in the new part. Can't imagine that had anything to do with it. But just in case I unhooked it and put it back to original state. Still nothing.

Any ideas would be appreciated....... THANKS..

Try holding the throttle wide open while you crank the motor. See if it starts after 10 seconds or so.

When (and if you did this) turn the key on/off and don't start the engine this condition will happen. Like the other poster said, hold the throttle WFO and crank again. I bet after a few seconds it will fire right up.

Well.... I went out and tried it again and it did sound like it wanted to start, but didn't really burp completely. I think I'm smelling some gas now, so I'll wait until tomorrow morning and try it again. Hope the battery holds up.

Thanks for the info.

Your bike is flooded. It happens sometimes for no apparent reason but usually after it has been fiddled with or just started momentarily, and then turned off and left alone for a few hours or days. You can try the wide open throttle method or remove the fuse to your fuel pump and usually get it started again, but if you have a downward slope near where you are, or if you can summon the help of an able body, push starting it always works, assuming you know what you're doing.

Sorry, tons of documentation on this, turning the key on and off without starting does not cause this.

Care to enlighten us on what DOES cause this? I have about 10,000 miles on mine, and have never had the issue. I have however, read about plenty of people who have.

When you cycle the key and engine is cold the ecu gets temp info for cold start enrichment . Think how many times you turn the key on and off . Believe it or not when you turn on the key the pump powers up and the injectors squirt a little fuel . and more in enrichment .

That is how old fuel injection systems worked. I cycled the key on my super 40 times and it fired immediately and did not smell of excess fuel.

did you use a scanner, oscilloscope, or a noid light to verify that it injects at the cycling of the key?

Nope none of the above I just know on my bike in my garage I have to use caution cycling the key on/off. Sort of like I got kicked in the scootm once and it hurts made sure not to do that again

::015:: YMMV

I am sorry, but the key on key off does not "inject" fuel. That is fact. I hope this doesn't hurt your feelings, but that is the case. The problems are more likely in map or sensor readings. Lots written about it.

Just wanted to let everyone know I did get the Sucker started. Tried the WOT several times, didn't get it done. Then as someone suggested, I pulled the fuse on the EFI.... still no fire. Had to let it sit for another day, put some battery jumpers on it, WOT for a good long time and it did clear and start. Hope I don't have to do this anymore..... PITA.....

Just wanted to thank everyone for helping.....
