I am going to pick up my bike tomorrow and I wanted to make sure that I have the right tools with me to adjust the stock windshield height. I have a 235 mile ride home and thought I could play with the diff heights. What tools do I need for adjusting?

Thanks!

Did you end up mounting the stock windshield in the top mounting holes? I wanted to try this but the manual says not to.

My dealer mounted the screan on the top holes and I have no problems. Just wish it was 2-3 in taller. When I duck down 2-3 in I have no buffering or noise. This bike is great, nice and smooth.

I had pretty much the exact same experience. My dealer mounted it in the high position, so I left it there. Worked well for the 300 mile ride home. I do get more wind than I was used to, but it was hot so I think it worked out good. I agree though, +2-3 inches and it would be perfect for highway use. Maybe a tick wider too.

I will prolly try the MRA vario as winter gets here....

Looks like my windshield is also in the high position. I get no buffeting when in clean air and the windshield is pretty quiet. In this area we have traffic that can suck and I get buffeting but it has little to do with the windshield and more to do with traffic and wind. Overall I am very happy but agree that there might be another windshield for the colder winter months.

Had not thought about the windshield much until this thread. Now I think I will see how low I can get the windshield and be comfortable.

Has anyone tried the Wings? What do they do?

Old thread, new question, but related. After taking the screws out, how do you get the mounting end of the screws out. It looks like there is a rubber "O" ring holding it in. I did not want to force anything and could not unscrew it or pull it out. Can anybody point me in the correct direction? I want to move the screen into the top position.

Once the screws are out the rubber plugs are just pushed in through the hole. You should be able to just pull them out. If they have taken a bit of a set from being compressed you can squeeze/push from the back side but they should pop right out. There is nothing else holding them in place.

These things are called "well nuts" BTW.

If you need to buy more well nuts, check out Calsi. Also Lowes has them but they are not metric. I think Madstad may have them as well.

Don't know if you can get the exact size/model, but Lowes has a pretty good selection of well nuts.

Thanks everybody. They came out and put back in with the help of a little screw driver. No problem.

Since we are on the topic of the windshield.....

Has anyone sourced the small hand knobs for the windshield instead of the screws? I saw that Calsci sells them, but I can't seem to get past the fact that 4 of them are $11 and the shipping is $17!

They sell the well nuts too.....
Try calling Mark and see if he will lower the shipping. I think he may do that.

It might just be a standard part of the online shipping system at CalSci and if you call and place order they should ship them for less. As nice as the knobs are it is hard to justify $27 for four of them. $7 each, ouch. I'd think they would be about $2 to $3 each. I think they used stainless steel on the bolt.

Here are some on Ebay,, 3.49 ea. free shipping. These are 5mmx 15mm, so they are 5mm short and you would have to measure to see if they would work.
