Mounted a top case per the manufacturers instruction with their "No need for an additional rack" mounting plate and in two weeks of around town riding (No dirt) completely trashed the stock rear rack.
The stock rack is junk/not usable.
Do the other aftermarket racks attach to the stock rack?
The stock rack seems flimsy.

What are my options?

I have a Shad SH46 and I drilled four small holes in the stock rack and mounted the plastic Shad mounting plate that came with the case. I did not have a failure of the stock rack, but there was too much up and down movement at the rear of the rack and I could tell over time it may fail as your's did. I replaced it with the SW Motech steel rear rack from Twisted Throttle and got the metal adapter for the Shad case that fits directly on the rack, it is an option that was $38.00, but this means everything is now metal but the top case itself. You an contact Twisted Throttle to see if there is a mount for your specific case.

Most of the better top cases do not mount to the stock rack. For example, below is the Givi SR371:

Weight is an issue with the factory rack. A couple gallons of milk exceed the spec.

Didn't consider mounting anything to the stock rack. With my replacement ALTRider rack, I can mount a top case or any assortment of rear bags w/o any concern...always aware of too much weight and such.

YMMV

the stock rack is for asthetics only.
I did retain the stocker, but got rid of the plastic underneath.

That way, it's level with the rear seat removed. I strap small light items to it, with no issues.

I do not have a top case, I do have the ALTRider rack and would feel very confident bolting anything I wanted to, to it. Sturdy item, sturdy mount.

You might think I,am nuts but I had a 4l60e with torque converter strapped on the back of mine. I had to take it for a 30 mile ride.

My reference to the rack being junk was after it cracked.
Junk = useless condition.
I'll send you my cracked one if you want a spare ::008::

I have the GIVI aluminium rack specifically for the S10. Take off the stock rack and replace it with the GIVI aluminium one using the bolts and spacers provided by GIVI. It's as solid as a rock. The rack will take any GIVI monokey topbox.

I too removed the below rack and the rear seat. Just did a 6,000 mile trip no problem. It seems to distribute the weight.
I don't want a trunk.
YMMV

Gonna have to upgrade if you have to have that extra mass wobbling around back there.

Mine cracked too, replaced with an Altrider one which is bomb proof. ::008::

X2 I posted pictures of my trashed stock rack sometime last year. I only had a small top box and never carried much weight. I'd re-post but I'm on a trip. The Altrider rack is great. ::008::
