I think the comfort of each type of seat is dependent on the shape (and size) of your butt!

Nope, everyone loves theirs. You're the first I've heard that doesn't like theirs....

Just joking of course. Think you'll find dozens of threads for solutions. Me, I went with a B. Mayer saddle with an Alaskan sheepskin. Like butter now.

Welcome to the forum.

Tons of people here running all sorts of different seats... Mayer's, Sargent's, Russell's, Seat Concepts, Cee Bailey's, Saddlemans, etc., etc., etc., and now Laam seats are coming online. Lots of info here on the forum if you just do a simple *SEARCH*. Lots of posts, lots of threads, and more info, pictures, and answers than you'll ever get in replies here in your inquiry thread...

I put over 10,000 miles on the stock seat, and I've used a Cee Bailey's for near 20,000. In there I've also tried a Sargent V2 for around 1,500-2,000 miles. So far the Cee Bailey's has been the best for me and my posterior. But as Fishcat mentioned, seats are different for every butt. You may have to try a few before you find your "Charmin"... ::025::

I tried a Sargent and it didn't work for me. I'm only 5'7" and it seems made for those 6' or taller as it's wider than stock and the slightly dished sweet spot sits you further back from the handlebars.

After reading good things about Seth Laam, I phoned him up and after talking to him decided to have him customize a set of stock seats. He received the seats today and phoned me up to let me know they arrived and to have a preliminary discussion even though I'm in Japan. I filled out an online order form and he'll be calling me back on Thursday to discuss the build in detail. He's definitely enthusiastic about his work. ::008::

Will post up pics and my impressions once I get the seats.

There are 3 seat manufacturers that are regarded by most as the best. They are Russell, Bill Mayer (Rocky), and Rick Mayer. I have a Rick Mayer on my S10. It is way better than stock. I have a Bill Mayer on my FJR. I personally think the Bill Mayer is better. The Russell is also a great seat that many swear by.

I was able to do about 1400 miles on mine last weekend, 400 miles or so in a day. This is the first bike I've had since my Gran Canyon that didn't give me monkey butt. Stock in the high position with an Aerostich sheepskin. Wish the windshield was as good as the saddle. I wonder if those who build these bikes actually ever ride them. But wind protection is as subjective as saddles. Love the bike anyhow!

Monkey butt is moisture management. Feeling like someone took a baseball bat to your backside, bruised, is seat ergos. LOL, they can both be caused by seat materials.

Not sure if its the seat that breaks in or your arse that adjusts but it is expensive to buy after market on the results of early miles, mines fine now something gave.

I have just put a Air Hawk 2 on my super10, at the start I hated it :( It was like trying to ride a bike while sitting on a beach ball, but after I played with the air pressure and inserted a little memory foam I now love it, spent five hours in the saddle on Sunday and I could have gone another 5 hours, not much good for hanging off the side of the seat in corners but on a long ride it is worth every cent ;D

Weigh plays a big part your going to feel the Pan real quick if your a heavy weight rider mine started about 50 miles or so, inseam is another I have to set my seat high 32" inseam not a lot but if i set it to low I feel it in my hips. :'(
I think most OEM seats are made for the showroom floor sales pitch, you sit on the plush seat and go wow this is nice while your looking at all the coolness of the bike; Unless you take it out for a test ride your never going to know if it sucks or if you can live with it.
Corbin was great on my 1998 Triumph Tiger but the one for the 1050 Tiger sucked, like sitting on an anvil!! ::010::
I would like to try the tenere Corbin.
I want to try the seat beads the Air hawk I didn't like as stated above like sitting on a beach ball for me it was like a water bed..

When I ride with jeans on things get miserable pretty quick, riding in textile gear or leather is a totally different story. The textile seems to work best, for really long trips I might invest in a sheepskin cover. I'm just a wee man so the stock seat works pretty well for me

Laam's is the best option for a lot less than Bill or Rick.....unless you like paying more....

Ramsebella has it spot on. The heavy guys have more issues than the light guys. I'm in the former and tried a couple of versions of the Cee Bailey's seat before moving to a Russell Day Long. That said, I'm a long distance rider and my needs are different from the average rider. The Cee Bailey seat is a good looking, well made seat. But for me, the memory foam they use just collapsed when it got hot, 95-100+ temps and that didn't work for my 1000+ mile days. The Russell did. I have maybe 30-40k on it and it's as good as when it was a week old. I rode the IBR on it last July and covered about 10k in 11 days with a couple thousand miles a few days before that and 5k over the two weeks after that and butt burn was not an issue. Thank you Russell and LDComfort!

Renazco Racing
Yup! I'll be sending my seat pans to James within the month. They make a super-comfy seat and specialize in making them for adventure riders. I decided to try the quick, ready-made route with Saddlemen and although their seat is better than the OEM, they don't come close to the seat Renazco puts out. Renazco is worth waiting for. Even if they are backed up, I can use the Saddlemen if the Renazco isn't ready by the beginning of next riding season.

Totally agree with Roge. It seems to get better after a while. After I first got my S10 and did a few long days (3 x 1000 miles, back to back) I was ready to look into a new seat. Tried a Corbin (cut off circulation in my legs), Seargent (back pain) - both did not work for me. Went back to the stock seat and somehow I seem to have gotten used to it. It definitively gets better with time.

Granted if I would attempt an Iron-Butt (which I will not), I would probably look into something better.

The stock seat works for me - I would give it a few more rides and spend the $$$ elsewhere. The stock seat is not as bad as it seems at first.

My progression with seats was to first have the local upholstery remove the sand paper fabric cover and make a smooth vinyl cover, $35. Then lower the rear. Better. Then tried a Sargent modified stock seat and it was better. Later decided to try a Corbin and sold it in one day as it squeezed my nuts because of the rise in front. Went back to the Sargent modified OEM seat. Later tried the Sargent V1 World Sport seat, which I sent back for the V2 upgrade, which was better, but not nearly as compliant as the World Sport seat I had on my KLR. After a bit I decided to sell the World Sport and use the Sargent modified seat. My latest experiment was to send a new OEM front seat to Seth Laam for his $199 modifications. Seth worked for Rick Mayer for several years, BTW. His first attempt was very close and probably would work for most. I prefer to ride toward the front of the seat, so discussed this with Seth and he did a free mod which has worked out very well. Right now, I think it is a keeper. Evidently, I am to seats as others are to tires when it comes to experimenting. I honestly think I have found the answer with Laam, though. Very good quality, cooperation and price.
