Who has this combination and how does it work? I am 6ft tall and really like the idea of the visor as well as the ear pockets for my ear buds. My only concern is how the wind is going to grab the shield.

any advice?

joe
ps- I searched and found a DS helmet thread but nothing in there spoke specifically about the XD3 and the Tenere.

I had it. then went with the parabellum....big difference.

It wasn't all that bad, but on a long ride, I could feel some neck fatigue. I rode the bike home in October in Virginia, so the weather wasn't too bad, bit a wind here and there. At lower speeds (under 40) it was fairly negligible.

Screen was at lower stock position.

or Arai XD-4

http://www.revzilla.com/arai-xd-4-helmet

Tried the XD-4 on for about 30 seconds then the technician returned with my new Signet-Q. The XD-4 ears did not fit as well as the Signet-Q but I want to try the XD-4 on again and give it a chance.

I have some of the same concerns with the visor. I watched a friend ride in pooooring rain and wind and with a similar helmet and it was constantly choking him.

I ride currently with the Arai XD and until adding the touring screen and the Touratech adjustable bracket was not a happy camper with my 6'1", 215 lb. 34" inseam frame. Buffeting and neck fatigue on the longer days.

Now that I have the Update to my screen it is no longer an issue. I am upgrading to the XD4 once they're readily available. My orginal XD is tired, has well over 40,000 miles of road, dirt, and lots of sweat. It's also old and it's time.

I ride with a XD3, stock screen in high position, seat in high position, 5'11" & 32" inseam. No issues at all with the stock screen. No turbulence, nice & quiet, the wind does not grab the helmet visor. I only get a bit of turbulence at high speed (80+) or if there is a stiff cross wind. This is much much better than the same combo on my Tiger 1050.

That being said, I have a Touratech screen adjuster and MRA Touring screen (the one without the spoiler) coming for X-Mas....I needed a place to mount my Zumo 665 so I went with the Tourtech GPS holder & screen adjuster and I like a tinted screen and the MRA was the closest to stock (a bit taller & wider)....so I'll see how well that works at higher speeds.

I have an XD and ride with a medium Cal Science screen and sit in a pocket of still air. The one time I got a big suprise was when I stood up at 60mph and had my head jerked back. ??? That screen is a real pleasure as it eliminates the major fatigue (wind) that has always limited my riding duration. The XD is not a good option at high speeds with a low screen or stitting in the wind. I understand the new XD4 has a lot of changes to the visor that helps the lift problem. I really do like the XD (3,4) as it gives a real sense of openess in the helmet. Not nearly as clastrophopic as a typical full face and a lot cooler inteh warmer months

I have the XD3 and an MRA touring screen with spoiler and the WASP adjustable screenmount and have no issues whatsoever. Totally windstill between the screen and myself. I can light a match driving 120 miles/hour.

Love the helmet!

::026:: Same setup. Very pleased with it. Was not happy with just the stock screen, with or without the WASP adjustable. I had hoped the adjuster with the stock would work, but it didn't. MRA is perfect. Taller and still able to look over it 99% of the time (also 6' tall).

Good price on the MRA Touring Screen. I am considering the Arai XD4.

Stock Windscreen, side wind deflectors, Madstad adjustable brackets, Arai XD3.

I'm 5'9" and the seat in the low position, I don't have any issues at speeds of 50-60 but, some buffeting at 65+ mph. Not the "head in a paint shaker" type, but still bothersome on rides at speed. I am still trying various positions with the Madstad brackets but I don't think it will solve the problem.

I am considering the MRA Touring screen w/spoiler as a way to end all the buffeting. I have read pretty good reviews on the MRA. I'm trying to find a windscreen that I will still be looking over as opposed to looking thru.

I'm not willing to give up the visor on my Arai helmet as I consider it a needed piece of protective equipment as it helps prevent sunburn and glare from the sun.

I'm 6'1", XD 4, seat in high position.

Stock screen in stock position gave some decent bufetting at high speed.

Stock screen all the way up eliminated the buffeting except for when you throw in a crosswind.

Mra screen with the spoiler is on order. Will report back on that.

Dead quiet, no buffeting, i forgot and wore it on my KGT for a quick 2 day trip. The XD was fine.

Here is a review from this time last year with an XD3 on my KLR. I have the adjustable windshield bracket (that I HIGHLY recommend) and stock shield on my Tenere. 11,000+ miles and plenty of 10+ hr days in the saddle later I am still pleased. Yes an Arai touring lid would be smoother but I love the visor on bright sunny days. I'm 5'9". 8)

Arai XD3 Review
Picked up an Arai XD3 at the IMS Saturday, tested it today.

Riding conditions: 80 F, sporadic 20 to 30 mph winds, KLR with a factory HIGH windscreen with Laminar Lip, sitting, standing, up to 80 mph.

Sitting behind a good windscreen:

- Quiet, less wind noise. Big improvement over other inexpensive helmets I have worn
- Amazingly quiet with the face shield up
- Very good air flow through the vents
- Cross winds moved the KLR but not the helmet
- No problem looking full left/right
- Excellent peripheral vision

Standing up, 80 mph: This is where it shined

- Still pleasingly quiet, some mild wind whistle
- NO buffeting looking forward unless I raise my chin, and not bad then
- Surprisingly little buffeting looking left/right. Noticeable but nothing that snatched my head.
- Immediately standing up above the wind screen looking straight forward did NOT snap my head back

General Observations:

- Obvious all around quality
- Light weight
- Good fit on my egg
- The long visor works great when the sun is low on the horizon. BIG+

Negatives:

- As stevepsd said in an earlier post, "the D-rings are slightly smaller than any other helmet I have used ". I agree.
- Price, I say it is worth it

In Summary:

- Any worries I had about the big visor and wind buffeting at highway speeds are gone
- It works as Arai claims, at least up to 80 mph. I would have tested at faster speeds standing up if my faithful KLR had permitted.
- The visor is removable for VERY high speed riding
- This would be a good lid even on a bike with NO windscreen at average highway speeds

... so says k woo, this 28th day of Feb, 2011

Very happy with the MRA screen from twisted throttle. My pillion noticed very little difference, but I did. Haven't been over 85 or so with it, but it's great at or near the speed limit. Got the smoke one and in hindsight, I would order clear. The smoke one has a purple tint to it that looks ghetto.
