... is it covered under in the YES Plan?

My bike has 44.9k miles and the steering become somewhat vague and heavier. Dealer say needs repacking and a new bearing. Service adviser was not sure if YES will cover it... $200+ bill ... not what I had in mind. ::010::

Probably not, but you can try. It's a judgment call as to whether the bearing wore out prematurely or not, or in warranty-speak, whether the failure is due to a "defect in material or workmanship". 45K miles isn't chicken feed. And unless you've had the bearings serviced according to the book maintenance schedule (which involves checking for looseness every 6K miles and repacking every 30K miles), they probably could decline based on lack of proper maintenance.

A good dealer has some leeway for their regular customers and might go to bat for you. But I wouldn't get all huffy if they declined.

Mine was not covered under YES. So I took care of it myself. My lower bearing was toast...think it was bone dry from factory. Upper was not bad, just needed a repack but I decided to replace both for peace of mind. Bike had 45k on it...mix of offroad/pavement/high speed highways.

They skimp on grease at the factory.
To get 45k miles out of a bike that heavy is a great run.

It's an easy enough job to do it yourself.

Olie, at this time it may be a good idea to change wheel bearings. Could be time for a drive shaft spline lube,if you are checking wheel bearings.

Bearing are wear items unless material defect no warranty coverage, normally.

Good Luck

thanks guys... Bearings were just somewhat worn. YES decline the coverage and the dealer upped the labor from 150 to $300. Bearings were about $37... total bill about $347.

At that price, I would do it myself and I don't know what I'm doing. I would by the end of the job though.
