Been without power all day - still am - so what else to do but play with the S10?

I have a Stebel Nautilis and Eastern Beaver horn relay. As you may know, the stebel is quite large, and after spending some time going over the bike looking for a good mounting location, I had to conclude there isn't one.

However the stebel, being an air horn, is made up of two parts - the compressor and the horn - which can be separated. Now that's more like it!

The compressor can go where the (useless) toolkit used to be. The plastic fitting on the horn that used to wrap around the compressor body, now wraps neatly around the upper fork leg.

Now I just have to figure out hose and wire routing and should be done. The horn seem like it can be oriented to avoid hitting anything when handlebars are turned, and also should not hit the mudguard under full compression.

Before I go ahead and finalize the intallation, can anyone see any problem doing it this way?

Make sure to swing the forks lock to lock and plan for full compression, but should work great.

I've got to get back to the junk yard in Mt. Airy to get a new set for this bike. Wonder if they have any more small trucks with big horn sets? NOBODY ignored them on my FJR!

strap a rope around it to check full compression of the shocks. I mounted one like that one time and it "slightly " hit the fender under full compression. I mounted mine on the hole that is situated on the left side of the engine block. I had one there on the DL for years and never had any problems.

Thanks mate, I was going to ask for a pic too - I spent maybe 15mins going over the bike looking for a mounting point. That one wouldn't work for me since the H&B crashbars and skidplate would be in the way. I think I would have rejected it as being a bit low anyway. Some water crossings could be that deep, and the Sebel is not really submersible...

That said, I have one mounted just below the gas tank on the right side of the Vee, probably only a few inches higher than yours, and went through water deep enough to drown the bike, but the horn survived. I don't think it submerged, but definitely got pretty wet.

I could have mounted on the crash-bar but I have other plans for that space. I just need to find right size 90 degree elbow of the air inlet on the horn part and I should be set.

Had one mounted on the DL for 5 years in that very spot. The same horn is on another bike now, I did multiple water crossing with no ill effects. I figured if it worked on that bike it would work on this one. I tired in around the cowling and it was just too tight, and most of all interfered with hard turns.

Also without power up here in Ellicott City and also out in the garage this afternoon playing with the Stebel mounting. Thanks to you and Motocephalic for the ideas. My next mission impossible is to fit the Touratech front under-headlight bezel and a set of Denali 2s together under the headlight.

Horn's still working great - I don't think I have to change anything from here on.

I did make one small modification - there is an air outlet facing forward on the horn – it would not be good to get water in there so rather than attach yet another length of hose I added a small 90º elbow. The one I had was too small to fit the hole properly, so I just glued it in with Shoe Goo. It’s not going anywhere, and I covered 500 wet miles recently and the horn still works perfectly.

Full story and pics here, for anyone who missed it.

Great - it's pretty easy, especially if you already have the relay setup. Probably need to shorten wires since runs are much less with the battery location on the S10.

I started my install this week. I had a little trouble separating the compressor from the horn, but eventually got it out. I then took a hack saw and grinder to the mounting bracket on the compressor to make it easier to fit in the toolkit area. I stuck the compressor in upside-down so the air output hose nipple is on the inside bottom of the compartment facing up for a straight run of the plastic hose upward. A couple of questions: I see that an attachment of the hose to the compressor would be easy, but how did you attach the hose to the horn where there is only a hole? Also, you mention placing a right angle fitting in the air intake on the horn to prevent water from getting in, but that air/water has no place to go other than up against the inside of the horn clamp on the fork. The air intake has no function now that the compressor is removed.

So I got the horn off the compressor, now (like bald eagle) I an trying to figure out how to hook the air line into the horn. Any tips or close up pics of that part? Will a male-male adapter work?

Thanks, and love your site

Ah... did I leave that out? Yes, just used some kind of male-male connector, but can't remember what sort. Will check in the morning.

OK - got a pic for you. It's just a strait hose connector, can't tell you what size, I had a variety to choose from so just rummaged through till I found one that fitted.

You can see the connection lives just behind the lower triple-clamp.
