Sometimes I am really impressed with what passes for a state maintained road. This one is Virginia on the east side of the mountain and West Virginia on the west side. At times it was steep with lots of switchbacks and some fairly rough sections. Gotta love it. ::012::

These roads are the reason I was so bored on an FZ1 and FJR. They really suck on these roads.

Unfortunately my attempts at video were unsuccessful. Not much else from today, this is about it.

Nice pics Dirt_dad! There are some awesome "State Maintained" roads off the Blue Ridge Parkway here in NC that are alot like those.....some packed gravel and stream crossings. I've ridden my Yami WR250R on them....many of them have some waterbars that you can catch some air on....... ::013::

I do enjoy catching a little air with the S10. Nothing big, but had it off the ground a couple of times. Always fun.

Below was the road today. The vertical line is the state border which is pretty much at the top of the mountain on this road. On the right of the border is Crooked Run Road from Bryce Ski Resort area. On the left is CR20 which ends near Mathias, WV. Nice ride. I highly recommend it if you want to take a break from pavement munching.

If you get the chance to make it out there, Greenridge State Forest and Savage River state forest in western Maryland can be fun too. I was just out in Greenridge on Sunday - the 18 mile loop trail is now closed, but if you take exit 62 off I-68, head north to 15 mile creek road (2nd left), it can be an enjoyable several hours of riding around. There is a great river crossing as well (skip the bridge and stay to the left) - good place to ride through and wash the dirt off before heading home.

Love to ride that area of MD/WV/VA. Lots of good logging and back roads with great views.

Thanks, good to know. I was bummed out when I learned the loop was closed. Rode it years ago and really enjoyed it. I didn't know there was still something still available. Will need to check it out.

We have very similar roads around here. It is one of the reasons that I bought my Tenere. These roads look similar to where Venture and I have been riding on our 250s, except our roads have rocks embedded/loose/etc. It is surprising just how good the traction is on the Tenere with the stock tires in this stuff; much better than expected. The weight no doubt helps them stick.

I agree. I am blow away by the benefits of traction control. Didn't think much of it before buying the bike. Had no idea of how great it was going to work. Big fan now. ::008::

It is slippery enough that I tend to turn the TC to position 2 or off when off road: loose rock and clay aren't much for traction. On the road, it is seamless.

Dirt Dad, those are the roads we ALL are looking for. Lucky man!

By the way, if you think TC helps the oem tires on those roads.........TC does miracles with the K60's.
