Finally made it back to Romney Cycle yesterday. First time I've been there since our camping event this past spring.

Spring event: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4141.msg82138#msg82138

They were busy as always, but I did have a chance to spend some time with Kevin (owner) and Larry (GM). After the initial pleasantries, I was not surprised to hear Larry ask, "What can we do to make things better for you guys next year?" I've come to expect that type of attitude from them.

In short, they are excited to have the "2nd Annual" adventure event. Last year they provided a place to camp, port-a-potties, a place to shower, fed us on Saturday evening, started a fire each night and provided seats around the fire. It was a great base camp for getting out on a terrific West Virginia ride on Saturday. This year they want to do more to accommodate us, but they're not sure what else we want.

I don't want to limit Larry's question to my brain alone. So if you were there last year, or if you might come this year, or if you just have good ideas, what kind of dealership support in addition to what I mentioned would improve the experience? They really want to make this an annual event that people look forward to attending.

No date has been set yet. Last year there was a couple of other events happening including the annual Strom gathering down at Iron Horse. It would be good to avoid scheduling for the same conflicting weekend. I know Larry is open to doing it earlier this year. If you know of a date that is bad for some reason between mid/late April and end of May yell it out.

Thoughts, ideas...what do you have?

Well as I was the Newbie to this type of event, I had a great time at the 1st one.

I really don't know what they could have done to make it much better. Even if I did stay off site, they provided a great facility for campers and non campers alike. As a rider I don't know what else someone would want. Free place to camp, shower, fire started, food one evening and not to mention some great riding. As for the time of year, anytime is a good time in the mountains of WV. ::001::

I think one thing which will help them with attendance is just what you are doing...... Getting the word out earlier will permit individuals to get it on their calendar. The earlier the date can be set the better.

Great to hear John - those guys really set the bar high for other dealers (which is why the other guys hate them I guess!)

Have to agree with twodogs - we had some trouble nailing down a date last time (on their side and ours), so it was a bit late when we finally did. I don't think there's anything more they need to do over and above what they did last time if the group is say less than 20. Over that they might want to think about other options for showers. The RV worked well for a small group though.

I don't know if you can get people to register, but maybe a sign-up thread like they do for some things over at advrider will get a reasonably accurate head count and make planning easier.

I just had them put new tires on last Friday, they definitely seem like great folks. If the date is good, I should be there.

Oh and two other things -

Get Shirley's Diner to do the catering for Saturday night (as long a Kasey is on staff)

And make sure Kevin brings plenty of "the family recipe"...

I will help publicize this event. More to come as I free myself some time.

::008:: No comment ;) I like the Kasey catering idea. That might even get you to swing by again for the weekend.

It would be nice if we end up with enough people to do a couple of different rides. There are so many good places to ride around the area. I will be testing out routing options for the next few months.

Like Trevor said it will be good to do a signup thread, but will need pick a date first. I see the V-Strom gathering is at Iron Horse on the weekend May 17th next year. I think picking the same date has the potential to reduce the number of available participants. While this was primarily a Super Tenere event last year, Romeny would like to open this to the Adventure community.

To get the ball rolling I'll suggest May 3-5, 2013. Let's hear it. Would that date work for you, or is that a bad pick?

I want to go. Talking like meteorologist : there is 70% I will be there , 2% I will get lazy , and 28% chance some crap in my life will stop me from attending. The closer we get to that date, the more chance that I will be there.
It seams, that everybody had a lot of fun last time, so why fix, what's not broken. ::008::

That's just an opening bid of a date. Do you want to propose another one? The goal is to select a date to maximize attendance. I realize it's impossible to accommodate everyone, but not a bad idea to test a different weekend.

I agree, the selected date should be for the greater good. If I were to propose an alternate date, it would be May 24-26. That is likely too long for many to hold still though. On the upside, the weather may be more consistent by then.

Might not be a bad idea to have a primary date with an alternate in case the weather is absolute crap. We were blessed last year!

I'm good with the date selected.

Went riding today..... to much time to think when taking a break.

Do you think it would help to spread some flyers around about the Romney Event? I've talked to the folks at Lancaster Sports Cycles and they will let me put a flyer up in their dealership. I was pleased they agreed to do this as I'm sure there are some S10 riders in the area that are not aware of this forum. Would be nice to get a couple more riders out of Ohio to attend.

I think I need to shorten my breaks and ride longer.

Which date is good for you? At the moment two have been brought up, but none selected just yet.

Interesting idea. Larry designed the shirts he sent us after the event. I can't speak for him, but I suspect he'd be willing to make up some flyers for the event. That might make it hard to get a good estimated headcount so Romney could do the planning, but I doubt the unknown numbers would be overwhelming.

I'm pretty well open at this point as long as its before mid June. I'll need a packing and camping dry run before Colorado. Spklbuk, I wouldn't classify that weekend as absolute crap, only mildly annoying crap! :D
