Yes, I have had this happen several times. I put it down to my not compensating for the well-known "off-idle stumble" as I went to pull away. Also had the bike die when I blipped the throttle to match RPM during down-shifting. Just like my 1K VStrom used to do.

Hi there.

I have a very definite stalling issue on a 2012 STen.
It is back yet again with Yamha, as I am not willing to accept this.
It is infrequent, but more frequent in warmer weather.
When it is warmer it even pops and stalls while lane splitting, should I close the throttle, which makes for interesting riding.
This is my daily commuter. So you can imagine how p22d off I get when it does that.
At 1000kms I moaned but was told to run it in.
At 10 000km's I was ignored by the dealership workshop, so I phoned Yamaha SA headoffice.
2 guys looked the bike over, adjusted co2 to 10 and stated that nothing was wrong with it.

I have a reaction with the front brake, when hitting a sharp curb or speed bump.
The front brake doesn't work when that happens.
I nearly took out my drive way gate the first time, as I have an up-hill drive way.
Now I know to use my rear brake all the time.

Yamaha tells me I don't know ABS.
I have been riding for 30yrs, so me thinks not.
My other bike is a Kawasaki GTR and that ABS doesn't do this.
I've had an ER6f with abs, didn't do this.

It's now back again with 15000kms on the clock and still not right.

There is a long thread about the stalling you are having. At least I think it sounds the same.
http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=1973.0
You may find info that could be very helpful to you.
Sad to hear your having the issues.
I have a 2012 with about 6400 k's on her and had a bit of that in the beginning. I found if I am in TC2 it lessens and TC off it goes away.
Anyway have a look at that thread in Technical Discussions and best to you-!!

Mine had a bad stalling problem and off idle hesitation, I tryed sinking the throttle bodys and co settings changing from 0 to +10, about two months ago I tryed resinking and put the co at +3 and it has been perfect ever since. I don't know why I couldn't get good results before . I am so thrilled with this bike now!!! ::014::

Mine would hiccup and stall every once and awhile pre 3k miles. After that its has not missed a beat.

the tc/abs is particularly sensitive to sharp edge/tall bumps. If you were to watch the actual tire movement you could see a brief moment where the tire stops moving (front)when it hits the bump and the suspension starts traveling upwards. If you have it in TC1 this becomes pretty evident under transient throttle positions. Why they went this aggressive on the interventions probably has to do with the fact that there are only two wheels, but it is mind blowing that they can read wheel speed this quickly and alter throttle position so rapidly. I don't notice the bike "letting off" when I have it in TC off, it is less noticeable in TC2. As for your ABS coming into your driveway, I can't guess to the situation but a wheel speed sensor going out could cause a similar situation that doesn't recover fast enough.

Thank you all for the input.

Here is what happened so far:

I fetched my SuperTenere on Friday afternoon.

I was a bit early and scored a cup of coffee with real milk from the owner/dealer. :)

The setting is now 15 and the front ABS system has been replaced.
Wayne, the workshop manager, was parking the bike and felt the ABS kick in where it shouldn't have. So I wasn't imagining it.

Wayne was very professional about everything this time. The mechanic, Lyle and he went all out to explain to me what has been done and how they tested things.

Wayne and Lyle had me stand on the bike without the seat and hold the brakes, hand and foot, while they ran the diagnostics, and both levers pushed out. This was to show me that the brakes are in order.

They showed me how to access the settings via my dash, should the settings of 15 not work. This is a relief as it is easy to do yourself. You do it for each cylinder. I now feel more confident.

Danny is trying out the setting on his bike, according to Wayne, and says Danny can feel a difference in performance. So that seems to be the right direction.

I now need a few hot days, and a few weeks, to see if the pop/stall is a thing of the past. If not, I'll try -15, as that was the original recommendation on the Wilddog forum, now that I can do this myself. I ended up settling on +15 as the setting of +10 had softened the pop, although the bike felt weak. At +15 the Ten feels fine.

I have not gone out to put down a line yet, as I had a pillion. The STen hasn't had the adverse reaction of the brakes, going up my driveway, though.

Of course, now my bike is heavy on juice, as I go everywhere at full tilt. I hope I even out soon. :D
(Enjoying the extra horses.)
My daughter was pillion on Sunday for a short test, and says I'm a show-off.

So far so good, but only time will tell, as I learned previously.

I have a more positive outlook on the matter now.
I also feel I have been heard, and that should I not be happy and cannot sort the stalling, I have somewhere I can call for a different approach.

I'm having the stalling issue with my '14 ES. So far Yamaha has checked the throttle body sync, it was dialed in no changes made. Then they replaced the entire wiring harness. Still stalled a couple of times. Now the have a data logger attached to the harness. Winter set in so I have not been riding much. They down loaded one batch of data with no issues found. Tomorrow they want to download again and remove the data logger even though it has not stalled since the logger went on. I almost got ran over by a quad axle dump truck when I stalled out in an intersection. Once it shut down with the throttle at rest in gear coasting at 25 mph. In 6500 miles it has stalled about 10 times, usually after a long idle waiting at a stop light. Bites! I just printed the air screw adjustment info Thanks!!

i can say that since I have eliminated my 02 sensors I have not had a problem. Maybe something to look at with the other riders who have done similar.

Hi. A follow up at 70 000kms. It's consumption is still improving all the time. Hardly ever pops. Maybe once a week. Never stalls completely now. I do about 100kms commuting a day.
My Kawasaki 1400 Gtr has the other half of my mileage at 70 000kms. Consumption constant since 10 000.
