As for weight, I think Yam intentionally shot between the GS and GSA. The GSA still wins the award for being "a bridge too far" in bigger than I want.

I know what you're saying. But, as big a fan as I am of the Tenere, that picture captures the relentless draw the GSA will likely forever have on me.
I mean just look at that thing. It's shear attitude. Ironically, the Tenere can carry out the implied mission with as much prowess, for less $, and with less worry of mechanical disappointments.
But if I trusted the bike on the right every bit as much as the other, I'd have it!

Haunting picture for me.

So, do they have helium in the frame?! Because I don't see how THAT bike is lighter than the Tenere. Not that it matters to me, BMW lost me years ago with inferior product quality and no dealer support. I would not lane split with the Beemer, you're going to scrape something.

It's not.

The GS is lighter and the GSA is heavier than us.

Technically true.

But only on the show room floor.

These aren't commuters or race bikes. They are often pack-mules. So........
They are all so close that you don't know which one is actually heaviest until you rig it for your ride.

Back to topic.

I literally just left my Yamaha/Honda/Suz/Kaw dealer and looked at all the spring lines. the only bike in the huge lineup that caught my attention was the RMZ 450 race bikes from '16 he was selling as demo's.

nothing stopped me in my tracks. didn't want to throw a leg over any of them.

Well not that I could anyway.....there were 'do not touch' signs everywhere. this world is going to shit.

I get what you are saying. But I have the opposite problem.
I want to RIDE every one of them and possibly discover\uncover what the charm is of each. Every one of them is a horse that has a certain "gait" to it that might be fun.

I avoid dealerships. I'm a sucker.

I won't dispute you, because you should be right. But according to their website, the GSA is about 20lbs lighter than the Tenere, but 9kgs heavier than a GS. I just don't see how it's true, and I'm glad you're telling me it's not.

We had a big thread about it several years ago and this was what I remembered when posting in this thread:

The Tenere has hardly changed from Gen1 to Gen2 and while I see that BMW now claims the GSA to be 573 lbs (equal the Tenere), it'd be interesting to hear what people find a real one to be.

My boots and jacket weigh the difference between them, regardless of validity of claims.

It's an almost meaningless differentiation with these heavyweights.

What is NOT meaningless, is how manageable someone can engineer 600lbs to be.
And that is not where Yamaha deserves any criticism. An amazing package when actually in motion.

We have a '16 GSA, a '12 Super Tenere and the new to me '15 Super Tenere in the garage right now.

The '15 S10 is the funest, (funerest?), to ride. The HAS has so many settings and "features" that my wife forgets how to use/change them.

I personally don't find the GSA appealing. Boring to ride and stuffed with too many gadgets.

Yeah, it's big. Yeah, it's heavy. But I had to go back to my original criteria for what I was looking for. I always wanted an FJR, but I also wanted a bike that was great for the back/dirt roads around here. I got a bike that'll do that and it's at least 60 lbs lighter than an FJR.
And it's supported by a great forum. Win-win!!

There's an argument that the BMW forums are even more helpful than this forum. :)

But none are frequented by a bunch of better gents.

Don't forget that on BMW forums you pay twice as much as here and are the Beta tester for the first couple of years.
Right?
;)

I don't know.

This forum has likely cost me as much as a BMW.
(I have no regrets, of course)

::026:: I keep staring at this picture, and wondering why anybody would WANT to ride anything that wide. I get beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but damn! The bike looks like Judge Dredd should be riding it. Gold Wings & Valkyries are wide, but they don't go off road. And by your information only 11lbs heavier?! I want to use that scale when I get up in the morning.

If I'm not mistaken, the extra width of the GSA is almost entirely a result of the HUGE fuel capacity.
So you can imagine that short of having that tank full of fuel, the bike isn't actually heavier because of the fuel tank expanding its girth.

Also, in all fairness, that Tenere is naked. It gets a wider look when those Altriders get added. But yea, nothing looks like a GSA.
