What purpose would cast wheels serve, other than appearance or shave a few pounds? Spoked wheels are hands-down much more durable. JMHO.

Are you guys kidding you prefer spokes over cast I don't get that. Unless I'm off roading which I don't I would much rather have cast wheels. To each his or her own. Please some one make cast wheels for this puppy.

You'd rather have a cast wheel on an off-road bike? Really?

There are reasons MX and enduro bikes have spoke wheels and don't use cast ones. I posted a bit more info on that in the "Loose Spokes" thread.

The Super Tenere is designed, developed, marketed, sold, and intended to be used off-road, and for that having spoke wheels is the best solution, and compromise for using both on- and off-road. That's why KTM's big "Adventure" bikes have spoke rims, as do the BMW's, Triumph's, Moto-Guzzi's, etc. big bikes that are intended to be ridden off-road have them as well.

Don't be mad at Yamaha because you bought an off-road capable "Adventure" motorcycle to use only as a street bike. ;)

And yes, I much prefer spoke wheels on this type of bike than any cast wheel. But then I bought mine so I could confidently use it off-road and not worry about bent, broken, and cracked cast wheels.

Cast are easier to maintain than spokes, but pretty sure I would have busted through a few sets of them by now.

Cast wheels can be just as "strong", and usually a lot *stronger*, than spoke wheels... Especially if absolute rigidity is your goal. That's why you see them on road racers and pure street bikes.

But absolute rigidity and lack of flex is not the ideal for a bike used off-road. Quite the opposite. You need some flexibility and shock-absorbing capability built right into the wheel itself. Not readily done with a cast wheel.

V-Strom's may have cast wheels, as do some BMW G/S'es and some Triumph "Adventure" models, but they are aimed at and marketed to folks who want to "look the part" of riding a dual-purpose mount but have no intention of actually riding off-road. Spoke rimmed models are targeted at those who will actually ride the bikes off-road.

Different *spokes* for different folks... ;)

The last dirt bike I owned with cast rims, was my BMX bike back in the early 80,s.

I don't care about looking the part of an adventure rider and I'm not mad at Yamaha for using spoked rims. I purchased this bike because it fits me and handles all I need it to do. I just wish it came with cast wheels or we at least had the option is all. Not everyone goes off road Dal but that doesn't mean we can't appreciate an adventure bike and what they do to fill our needs.

I would ha e preferred a cast wheel option as well. I don't go off road and alloys are easier to maintain.
