I bought this seat from Bill Mayer Saddles. The person who actually makes the seats started the company Legendary. I had more material added to the front to raise it slightly. It helped prevent sliding forward.

Not exactly. Bill Mayer Sr. the developer of the "Russel Seat" who then sold it to the Russels, started the biz. His son Bill "Rocky" Mayer built your seat. Excellent seat and prices on your gear. I'm SO tempted on the exhaust package!!!

Ahh. Thank you for the clarification on history. Then "Rocky" must have transferred the workload, because I was fortunate to ride to the location to watch the seat built by Adrian Mercado. I told him to place his Legendary tag because he did the work. Website changed too: legendarybms dot com

I had a Mayer Saddle on a BMW that i had BUT it was built by Rick Mayer who has/had a shop in The Redding area years ago. Supposedly he had a falling out with the motorcycle community. It was a bit sketchy as I recall. Seth Lamb was his "apprentice" at the time and he now has, and has for some time, his own shop somewhere. What I liked about Rocky's seats is he had the ability to make his own foam and could dial in the density to the rider weight. They ALL used the basic design, with the "wings" that Bill Sr. developed. He then sold, I believe, the patent to the Russel's up in Shasta City IIRC to utilize a piece of spring steel mounted sideways to provide the lateral support that the "Russel Seat" is known for. GLWS you have some top notch stuff. Im thinking hard!!!

Actually Bill (Rocky) Mayer Jr., if you will, didn’t actually build the saddles himself. They’ve always been built by his partner Adrian. Been that way since he started / took over his dad’s business. The other brother, Rick, who also started a separate saddle company, was/is a skilled builder but a poor businessman and ended up ruining his reputation by failing to fill orders. Rocky took that business over and tried to fill all the back orders.

I got the whole story from Adrian when I was having my saddle built in their shop, which happens to be here in Ventura a couple miles from my house.

Maybe that WAS so as Rocky is deceased. I know for a fact that Rocky built saddles as He used to come to the BMW rallys I attended in the 1980's with Bill Sr. and ....build saddles. Now IF he never built saddles after he bought Sr. out I digress. I was going on what Rick told me.

Are these built to a specific weight like Russels? And if so, what weight was this built for? I'm 260lbs so...
I watched it built and then took it for a ride, commented, made adjustment, and rode again. For reference, I am 230lbs with another 20lbs with gear. Seat is firm.

I had a Bill Mayer seat on my GS12 and loved it. When I got my S10 in 2013 I had Seth Lamm build me a seat. Ten years on the Lamm seat and it still works great. Seth Lamm was in Redding when I got my seat, may still be there, IDK.

When I had my seat done at the ride-in appointment Adrian asked my weight. They have different density foam blanks to select from based on rider weight, and then customize the fit from there.
