It rained all day yesterday so I gave Snowflake a much needed and long overdue upgrade. Ebay buy off a 2012 for not much more than the cost of a rebuild kit.

Snapshots from the 110 mile shakedown run this afternoon.

Looking back across the bottom toward home

The Appalachian mist coming on with full force

Coal as an industry is a shadow of its former self but still hanging on in bits and pieces

Mouth of a shaft mine

Looking down the air shaft. Fog forms as the cold underground air hits the warm wet outside air.

Mine shop

Beltline to the tipple

Tipple where coal is loaded onto railroad cars

Ride scenes

Snowflake is very happy! Vroom! Vroooom!!

I am thinking hard about the TM 40 pumper carb upgrade to my DR in the near future. Right now I would be happy for it to stop raining long enough to just get a ride in. It's wet here lately.

Snowflake is looking great.

Nice ride on snowflake ::008::
The ride was in the area of the wrong turns I led you into. I went back and worked out the connectors. Added ~50 miles of gravel road to my network when the gates are unlocked. All bets would be off during hunting season though.

I too flirted with the pumper carb idea. The deal on the mint stock BST was just too good to pass up. I finally decided that I could wait for it to quit raining or I could ride to try out the carb. Snuck in during a lull and only got sprinkles and fog! And thank you, Snowflake does ok for a rusty bucket of bolts.

Flood watch today...fun times on Snowflake this afternoon.

Looks like a good day, Jim.

I'm still so amazed at what a great bike the DR is. Been out there forever, and I more or less ignored it for all these years. Happy I finally discovered it. It's just a fun bike to ride. I'd like more power out of it, but when isn't that the case with a bike. I've thought about adding the pumper, but for some reason I just don't want to spend money on this bike. It's still nearly stock, and has cost me so little that it is almost a point of pride that I've done so little on it.

My next new-ish model may well be a DR built to the hilt. First stop, an appointment at Cogent Dynamics for the full monty. Suspension most limits performance to my eyes (butt?).

Currently torn between a more spiffy DR and a new Versys 650 Adv. I still lust for my former lil' red 08. Another plain fun to ride machine. Different mission, but just as fun as a DR. Hit Larry up for a Versys test ride on someday Jon, you will be pleasantly surprised. Assuming Romney isn't still ignoring the Versys like in the past that is. Not sure how they could given Kawa's new redo.

In the meantime...It was such a good day yesterday that I'm likely going to have to have another round as soon as the morning storm washes on through! Loading up my nasal GPS right now!!

Larry knows if he lets me ride a bike it will sell immediately thereafter. Either to someone else...or to me. I have to be very careful what I ride out there. The danger is more to my wallet. Not sure I want to try a Versys. Running out of room in the barn.

My day will be finishing off the 600 miles, then doing the service on the new one. Oil change on the old one. Maybe some more setup of part on the new one if there is time. It's a maintenance day.
