So I was thinking about ditching the boat anchor. Not a lot of choices for the ST, I know there are some folks that have changed out the pipe, what did ya go with?

I went with the Yoshi and pulled the silencer plug out . It sounds great but melted the reflector and a little of the fender .

Went with the Akrapovic... have not mounted it since the Tenere is in the shop.

I don't want loud from my motorcycles or do I want to ride behind a loud motorcycle.

Just remove the cat and your header is basically the same as an arrow. But anyone who says the Yoshimura will not burn the reflector and some of the fender has not ridden the bike hard or has installed the can incorrectly. It is impossible Not to burn these items once the plug is removed. After burning mine in less than a mile , I went ahead and reinstalled just the tip.

I have Arrow downpipes and can. The downside of the Arrow can is that you will still need to use the full size exhaust shield as it has a small metal bracket with a rubber stopper 'helpfully' put there to stop the full size exhaust shield flapping which would look a bit weird if the exhaust shield were removed or substituted for a short shield.

My exact setup except those side reflectors were gone the first day I bought the bike.

At the Pine Barrens 500 many people said my bike was the best sounding one in the parking lot.

I went with a LeoVince carbon can. It's a good fit and sits in line with the heat shield, so no silencer droop here. The sound is loud enough to let folk know that it's a real 1200cc twin that your riding but restrained enough to keep neighbours/local law enforcement happy. It comes with two baffles from the factory, one that's a flush fit which fires the exhaust gasses at your rear mudguard (sorry, fender) and a turndown tip (see photo) that fires them down onto the floor. If you run it with the baffles out, i've been told it sounds a bit like a Ducati …………………..but one that's in a good mood. :)

When properly installed the Yoshimura exhaust will not burn anything. Mine has been on for 2 years without problems. The OP should do a search before asking a question. There are several discussions, photos, and videos on different exhausts.

Ever considered that it might be incorrect fitting that causes the melting?
What you are saying is that a correctly fitted can will burn you bike?
Mines been on for 20000km on and off road, long highway slogs an many with Wolfman Soft panniers on and nothing has burned now tell me who has an incorrectly fitted can.

So this is my main concern, I have mixed reviews about if it will damage it or not.

Not sure if you are trying to help or not. I found some threads but did not get the info I wanted

Yes, another thread about exhausts, stop reading here if it bothers you.
I just bought a '14 ES and I am considering to buy either an Arrow slip on or a Yoshi pipe.
I am looking for more rumble, a nicer "soundtrack", don't want to triggercar alarms or annoy people around me.
I have seen some people selling their Yoshi due to being too loud. Not so much for the Arrow.
Any advice, personal experience?

I talked to my local shop and we concluded that 2 Bros and Yoshirma were about the only two options. The Akrapovic was too pricey for me.

Okay, let me clarify my previous post. ..... If you install a Yoshimura can and leave the end plug in , then you will have trouble free ,

Fat fingers, sorry. The Yoshimura installed will work perfectly with no damage at all . However , if you remove the end cap that has a small tube attached to it and rode it like that , then it will absolutely burn the reflector that most teneres in the US have. It will also burn part of the rear fender. Period.

Here is proof so there can be no doubt. The first picture is of the burnt reflector, the second is where I cut my fender after it was burnt.
