I have narrowed by new bike choice down to 3 bikes, the Tenere, 1200 Tiger and the KTM 1290 but looks like I will probably go with the Tenere for a couple of reasons, price and reliability. I prefer the shaft drive so that takes out the KTM (plus the side bags are terrible) and I figure I could get the Tenere with a bunch of stuff and still be less than the Triumph, that being said I did ride the Triumph and really liked it.
My riding buddy and I are planning on doing some passes in CO next year, Boreas, Marshall, Independence as well as Pikes Peak and maybe the TransMass BDR, the year after that we are hoping for Alaska and Tuk and maybe Hatfield/McCoy. I am an average off road rider and I am sure the Tenere is more capable than I am but from all of my reading I am a bit worried about the Skid Plate so I want to make sure I have something better than the factory plastic one. I have narrowed it down to the Hepco and Becker and RideOnAdv. I looked at the ACD but it doesn't look like it covers the side but not sure about that. Also I would prefer to get the matching upper and lower crash bars so I want to make sure everything will fit if I mix the H and B bars with the RideOnAdv plate. I would prefer it if I could buy direct in Canada, which would be the H and B, but if I have to have it shipped to the US it would not be the end of the world, just an inconvenience that I would rather avoid. If I have it shipped direct the duties and fees would be something I really wanted to avoid as I would be hundreds of dollars.
For those that have done those routes can I get away with doing the H and B or should I go for the RideOnAdv (I like the way it attaches to the frame instead of the engine). Anything else I am missing?
Thanks...
