If your one who like a bit of old school you might like this. I've always liked my face shaved with a straight razor. I'm currently looking for a new straight razor. Over the last few years I've been trying out 'better' non-off the shelf shaving creams. There are many products on the market but I came across one I really like and is the 'old fashion' type. If your a person that once and awhile likes to do something different or a fella that likes to take the time, I suggest trying a product like this.
My wife and I were in Hot Springs recently and she wanted to go to some soap place that she buys soap online. They had some men's old fashion shaving cream in the store and bought some to try out, and its great. From 1-10 im going to give it a 9... If you use a straight razor this stuff is pretty slick and the razor just glides very smooth. With a normal razor its very slick and provides a very close shave. You can also shave against the grain of your face without pulling, just nice and slick & smooth. Here is what I bought, if you have any interest you should try it out ! And for the fellas that have never had a straight razor shave you should one once in your life. Find a good barber shop and go get the works one day by an old timer.. You will remember the experience !

The product:

If you shave with a straight razor and you like (or don't like) what your using post it up...

Part of my enlistment in the USAF I was TDY and lived in the small town of Kiire Japan (population 500ish) where I lived as a civilian. Once a week I would walk a block for a haircut and a shave. The shave was with a straight edge and my face was the smoothest part of my body. For Summer Solstice 2014 I shaved a 40 year old beard off. Currently use a Gillette Sensor or Fusion, no soap, just warm water. Definitely miss the six months of weekly straight edge shaves.

I'll do some reading on your razor. Where did you buy it?

As a young one, I was taught with an electric razor. In my 30's, I switched to a multi blade and often oil instead of cream.
This past March at 45 things changed for me and I had to buy all new gear. I decided to try the soaps and a real brush. This morning I was buffing the brush in the shave soap and realized that I wasn't looking at it because you can hear the soap foaming up. I am starting to really love that sound.
Haven't had the balls to try a real blade yet. But you guys are starting to convince me. ...maybe when I turn 60.

I'm 32 why wait? Start with a saftey imho I plan on buying a blade here shortly as I am getting better at not cutting myself. I'm just using Murphys and old spice but all this talk has me thinking about an upgrade!

you should add straight razors and shaving soaps to your web site, people will buy a great product... start looking a little like aerostitch, and they don't sell straight razors... be calling you soon on some bar risers and extended lines... ::009:: and we can stand on the empty box...

You know I saw that a company has come out with a laser device that effectively zaps the hair follicle and thus no more hair there...ever.

Just be careful where you point the thing.

I'll go check it out. I have one or two razors I'm looking at but they are sold out around the web.

Since my barber friend died I haven't had a straight-edge shave. Now using American Crew shave cream and just finished my first month with a Dollar Shave Club 4-blade. No complaints here.

Cool thread Hot Sauce...

I love a good hot straight razor shave. I have been looking at blades lately but having a hard time dropping a couple hundred bucks on a blade. I know a nice Dovo is worth it, but dang.
I grew up just shaving with an electric Norelco and still have the one I got as a high school graduation gift...a full plug in, NON rechargeable from 1982. I have had to put a new end on the cord, and replaced the cutting heads many times, but she still grinds raw multiple times a week. I think I am always in too much of a hurry to hand shave regularly.

I tried really hard to get a barber to come out to my daughters wedding and shave all of the groomsmen and dads/gramps up there at our cabin complex in Idyllwild last weekend but the local insisted he does not work on sundays even after I offered him $200 to meet us at his shop or come to our campground {log cabins are not really camping} plus the $15 per head to shave and he said NOPE. I asked to other shops down here near where I live and could not get anyone to drive the hour up the hill.

I was really bummed that so few people still do this craft as a business. I read that in many cities it is making a comeback, but not so much in rural So Cal.

I use a safety razor, edwin jagger de89's are my favorite with feather blades from japan.

As for soap, my favorite is tabac and a badger brush.

The mach-whatever cartridge shavers don't have a clue what they are missing :)

I use a Double Edge Safety Razor, Merkur 34c, with Persona Blue Blades. Picked up a 1964 Gillette Super Slim Adjustable last week. Wanted to try out a vintage razor and this was made on my birth year. I have used Razorock soaps and Taylor creams with either a badger or boar brush. I did order some shave soaps from Stirling Soaps last week. They are made in Arkansas so if they are really good might be an excuse to ride by there while I am at the rally.
