Blue ST just landed at my Reno dealer yesterday (Friday 7/29/11). Vin is 354. Ordered April 5th; past the deadline. I called Yamaha in Cypress and whined like a little girl until they let me order it past the deadline! Doesn't seem like there is any order to delivery. Pics up soon under another topic. Get to pick it up this afternoon; this bike has got to be the most beatuiful M/C I have ever seen!

Stupid question:

Why would people do this?
I guess I'm too old-school and private for the modern age.

Because it just seems like data mining to me. The end of the private life. The only reason I'm not a hermit, is that people know where I live. ::009::

I wouldn't call it that, since publishing relevant data is up to the person, not like using a grocery club card, credit card or purchasing from Amazon dot com. Now that's data mining. Pretty hard to live the life of a spook these days and I don't have anything to hide so I don't care one way or the other. ::018::

I can fully and completely understand if you don't wish to participate...

But why, and in not really a very subtle manner, try to belittle or be condescending toward those who happily and voluntarily did choose to add to the list? What, exactly, did that accomplish for you?

Why even comment if you find the list somehow frightening or beneath you? :-X

I think you have to look at the reason the list was started - I don't know, but I'm guessing you weren't among the early pre-orders? If you were you'd know the level of anticipation and yes, antsy-ness, created by the long wait, and then the longer wait after the Japanese tsunami. Originally we expected a number of shipments, with (hopefully) first orders delivered first. The list was an attempt to track what bikes were where, from which you could speculate where yours was!

Looking back of course it was a bit of a waste, since most US bikes were delivered almost simultaneously. But it was a good distraction at the time ;)

OK, thanks. Now I understand.

Interesting how I said it was a stupid question, and I didn't understand, and some folks read a LOT more into it.
