Shaft drive oil - changed P/N?

Need quick advice:
I bought a quart of shaft drive oil about 2 years ago. It was $35-ish/qt at a Yamaha dealer in PA. I remember thinking that was outrageous. The same juice is used for FJR and VMax, says so on the bottle.

Last week I asked for a quart of final drive oil at a Yamaha dealer in Fl. Parts guy said, "is that the same stuff used in the FJR, 'cuz it's expensive." Yep, about $35/qt. The same juice is used for FJR and VMax, says so on the bottle.

I decant the magic juice into a squirt bottle to get it into the fill hole on the pumpkin. The new stuff is WAY different than the old stuff. The older stuff was viscous, brownish, pretty opaque, looked a bit iridescent or something. The new stuff is thin, light yellow, pretty transparent.

Upon further inspection, the bottles have different part numbers:
ACC-SHAFTD-EX-00 - original
ACC-SHAFT-PL-32 - new stuff.

Both bottles specifically say shaft drive oil for FJR and VMax.
Is this new part number "new and improved" or did they give me the wrong stuff?

Both meet GL-4 and GL-5, so feel free to use either. It looks like MamaYama changed the additives package.

Personally, I have a bottle of Valvoline gear lube in the garage and have used Mobil1 version.

I have used Mobil 1 gear lube for several hundred thousand miles in my shaft bikes. Its cheap compared to the Yamaha stuff and can be found anywhere.

Bike Manufacturers change source of supply of pretty regularly.

Any GL5 75w90 or 80w90 gear oil or GL4 with specifically mentioned of hypoid gear is good to go. Personally I went for Redline 80w90 GL5 gear oil. Fully synthetic.

Does the bottle on the left say FJR/V-max? i thought i looked at both at a dealer, and didn't see the fjr/v-max part on the bottle on the left. i might have missed it, though.

They're different oils. Both may work fine, but only the one on the right is the special "Exclusive" oil which specifically mentions the FJR, V-Max, and S10 applications. If you're paying the big bucks for something from Yamaha (instead of the generic GL-5 Mobil and Valvoline oils that most of us use), I'd want the "Exclusive" oil.

Even with exorbitant dealer markups, $35/qt for the stuff on the left seems a little bold.

Thanks, all. I wish I'd paid better attention, or had more time to sort this out. I ended up using the new oil.

I think they may have handed me the wrong stuff - I'll confirm with the dealer in a few weeks.

A local Yamaha dealer near me only had the Exclusive and said that was the part number that came up from his search. I got home and checked Yamaha's website and the S10 is listed for this oil.
