Re: Service Intervals/ US

I've been changing the oil on my 2012 S10 religiously every 4,000 miles. Recently, I finally downloaded and printed the Service Manual (about 600 pages). This service manual recommends oil changes every 6,000 miles. What is with that? Anyone know why the service manual would not be consistent with the owners manual? Can it be trusted?
Also, page 3-3 of the Service Manual says that all clutch and brake hoses should be replaced at 4 years AND if cracked or damaged. My lines look just fine. Maybe something is lost in translation and this should read: "Replace at 4 years if cracked and damaged". Is anyone else with a 2012 S10 replacing hoses in accord with this instruction?
US has always been 4k interval for oil changes. The rest of the world has always been 10k kms, or 6200 miles. It's just an even number game. 10k is nice and even when you are metric, (everything in 10a, eh?).

Every motorcycle manual in the US since the beginning of time has said replace the brake and clutch lines every 4 years. Virtually no one does this, as it rarely needs to be done. Park your bike outside in the sun every day though, ride it every day, and store it completely outside, you probably will need to replace the lines every 4 years. It's a liability thing. Some auto owner's manuals say the same thing in regards to brake lines and coolant hoses.

I have over 100k on my 2012 Super Ten and while I did replace the front brake lines for longer ones, that was long ago. No other lines have been changed or had any issues.

I laid out the $100 or so for a U.S. Service Manual and it states oil changes every 4k, filter every other change.
That's 'cos oil is cheap in the US, the rest of the world have to pay an arm and leg for oil... So why not? ::025::

Oil's not that cheap! Probably cheaper than in Switzerland though. :D 'Cheap' synthetic is still $10/quart for moto specific oil.

@GearheadGrrrl - If that's what makes you comfortable, go with it. ::008::

The non-US Service manuals state 6200 miles, (10,000 km), for oil changes and still say every other oil change for the filter. If I'm doing an oil change, I always change the filter too. Only a few people I've ever met do the every other oil change filter change. I split the difference with 5k mile oil changes and I change filters every time. Just doesn't make sense to me to leave more dirty oil in the system and a dirty filter when I'm already there to change the oil.

+1 to doing both oil and filter every 5,000 miles, especially if you already have the skid plate off.
