Guys, I'd like to sincerely apologize.... I had initially wanted to head this little get together but life/work has gotten in the way of me doing much lately... :-[

Time off is tenuous at best these days and some family obligations are taking up a lot of that time.

Black Betty has not gotten any significant attention since my long trip in June.... :'(

Things are going to calm down at work by November but that doesn't do us a whole lotta good for this year....

Soooo, that being said, I WOULD be up to setting this up for next year (I will take the time off for that NOW)....gonna be the 3rd weekend in Sept, 2013. (Dates 9/19/13-9/21/13)

KOA at Manchester Beach.

Mark your calendars, get the time off and I'll get out the specifics as the time gets closer.

The ONLY way I'm gonna miss this next year is if I croak (or the world ends... :D)....in which case you'll be on your own.... ::025::

Will be putting this on the 2013 calender. It seems like it is a year from now and it is. The years go by a whole lot faster than they did 25 years ago.
Hope to be seeing you. It's to hard to know what I'll be doing then ...

Well, the first day of September is a Sunday, does that count as the first weekend of September 2013?

Good catch, Don. ::008::

Glad somebody looked at the damn calendar!!! ::025::

How about 9/19/13-9/22/13?

Weekend before is fine too. Just trying to set up a specific time now so I can book the time off.

I plan on being there Wednesday through Monday as it's a great area during the best time of year on the coast.

Yep!

Got everything packed and ready to ride tomorrow. Should be a fun excursion and a good excuse to scout routes for next years ride.

You guys should do a loop to include Fish Rock Road (partially gravel/dirt) and Mountain View Road (super twisty pavement). Both come out on Hwy one and 101. Tim can use his google fu to find the route.... ::025::

Have fun!!!!! ::001::

I have ridden both and like them both. We are sticking to asphalt for this trip. If I stay in Boonville I will be riding Mountain View to Point Arena for our meetup.

We will be doing be doing a 200 mile loop as far south as north Santa Rosa and as far east as Geyers. But who knows what we might decide to ride.

Just got back from my trip up North Coast. Did a little reconnoitering of the area. The state park campground is right next door to the KOA campground, but in a more open area. The weather was well, interesting: foggy in the am, then clear, then windy, then foggy. I packed layers and was able to keep comfortable from 95 degrees in the central valley to the 60 degree weather on the coast.

Okay....where's the ride report..... ::005::

Anyway, the campground next to the KOA is cheaper...but...no showers, cabins (for us creaky/cranky old bastidges) and the wind blows through that place like....well, never mind..... ::025::

I stayed in the KOA campground back in Sept of 2006 (on my west-coast lighthouse tour with my TDM850). The weather was, well, variable to say the least. Wind, fog, rain, sun, repeat; but then it's the coast in Sept. When I checked in at the KOA, it turned out that the manager had just retired from where I work (China Lake) and moved up there. Small world.

It's a nice place. Great roads throughout!

The state park is windier, not as much shelter as the KOA with all their trees.

Manchester State Campground... not as many trees plus they buffer the KOA from the ocean breeze. It is VERY cheap for me but the KOA looks like a better campground.

I did not make the trip. Sorry Hans. Ended up with the flu for two+ days. I might be headed that way this week and will know more tomorrow. I found a place in Boonville I want to rent and ride out of for 2-3 days.

I'm not one for doing good ride reports. I never stop and take pictures of anything scenic. It seems every single road on the North Coast area was in need of repair cuase Cal Trans had crews spread out every few miles doing something. Paving, cutting trees, digging ditches, shoring cliffs, etc. Sometimes the wait was short, sometimes not. Cal Trans also doesn't like to pick flat areas to make you wait either. Short legs, tall heavy bike and step hills builds character I guess.

Got to ride Highway 1 from Point Reyes to Rockport, inland to Leggit. I did cut over on some of the paved side roads from 1 to 128 to 101. I didn't hit any dirt, so Fish Rock road, Branscomb and Usal are still on my to do list.

Actually Branscomb is now fully paved. GREAT tight twisties with almost no traffic. Hwy 1 between Leggett and Rockport is great until you get behind a few motorhomes or trailers doing about 15mph.... Rarely do they use the pull-offs to allow passing.

One must occasionally resort to a hooligan double yellow pass.....or so I've heard..... O:)

I found Branscomb June 2011 and ride it every chance I get. Found it on my KLR and it was peg scraping fun (and I don't normally scrape pegs). Rode it on my Tenere and it was SCARY fast. For less traffic try riding Branscomb in the evening. East to West lets you finish with the best twisties. Then hammer the road to Leggitt.
