Something about third party hosting now.

F\/CK Photobucket. Those guys truly broke the internet. A decade and a half of forum threads and good information, completely trashed.
I agree wholeheartedly. There are things all over the net that I read and look to for information that is now nearly useless. In the long run I guess it reinforces the idea that nothing is free. In fact free can have a high cost. I am generally careful about who I deal with and rely on, and I will be even more so in the future. I will soon be paying for such a service, but it will not be with them.

Another increasingly more common fact of life: Pay more, get less. (less quantity & quality) ::007::

Photobucket itself became so bogged down with Ads that it was nearly useless, making Imgur and others the better options. I'm sure this is their last ditch effort to pull in paying subscribers, but it's badly misguided. They will fold and good riddens.

Last few times I tried to upload a photo, photobucket took between 1 and 2 hours per photo due to the adds bogging down progress severely. Useless, then they quit the only part of the site that mattered, the 3rd party hosting. I was happy to cancel my account, and hope they go tits up soon.

Unfortunately, the reports are that their revenue doubled and I would imagine their bandwidth requirements went down at the same time. It looks like a win for them and a lose for everyone else.

FWIW Imgur's terms of service prohibit using them for third party hosting.

After moving to Smugmug.com, I should have changed to it years ago.

They put a lot of people in a hostage situation. Not a big shock that some had no choice but to pay the ransom. What will be shocking is if they pay again next year after they've had time to find a better run, more trustworthy company. It's hard to know who is trustworthy, but PhotoBucket has proven they are not.
