I think this may have been discussed before but I notice lots of S10's getting sold off.
I understand the economy sucks but other forums I have been on don't part as fast such as the 1050 Triumph Tiger guys.
I love this bike it not Soulless as four cylinder bikes it is a bomber, does so much for what it is and dependable as an OX.
What gives?

I was talking to a friend about this issue. In my opinion theres two camps that meet at the super tenere: road guys & offroad guys I think lots of road guys got the st thinking maybe its like buying an suv where it will let me venture offroad. Once they hit the dirt its too much bike for them. Lets face it its not a 250f. So they get pissed and put it on the market to buy full street bike again. Where offroad guys that been around know what to expect so its lot more fun.

/quote] I agree with this. I ride with a large ADV. Group, Many guys come out after buying a large bike and find out this is not the sport for them. It's seems that the guys with Tenere's put them up for sale and buy a new road bike, And the guys with GS's just go hang out at Starbucks. Go figure.

In my neck of the woods (Northern California near Silicon Valley) very few Tenere's for sale.
Wish there were more, I am looking to add one to the stable.

Large majority of the used ones are usually real low mileage.
Pristine even.
And "never been down" or "not a scratch", "never been ridden in rain"......is how they are described.

I suppose the bond just never initiated. This bikes' mystique often is revealed while you are creating memories. My first ride was from Coastal Texas to the dragon & back. Had some amazing moments during that impromptu week! Including riding through some downright nasty weather.

When I finally parked it at the house, I knew it was where it was sure to live for the coming years. It had already shown me its conquering prowess.

Now that sounds like a great initial ride! Jump on it & go, go far... ::008::

testing the market, selling for a new 2014ES.....
Let me know how you make out. I'll be in your position next spring. Not sure about the ES though may go for the Standard. By the way, Blackfoot has a new ES on the floor.

Having bought a '14 is the only reason I'm selling mine. This will be the only for me for the rest of my time. It's just perfect.

Thinking of starting the Fickle Riders, Farkles will fix everything advocacy group. ::001:: Probably just need more time in the seat though at only 5,000m. As soon as I saw the 2014 I was ready to take a loss before I've even really gotten to know my current 12' all that well (mostly road). Looking forward to hearing more about the new model first impressions as well as some long hauls in the Pacific Northwest this Spring with my ancient Tenere.

I think that like with everything else, it takes getting used to. Some get used to it immediately on the first ride, others take time or is this a false assumption?

i think the S10 is just destined to go down as one of them bikes folks just didnt buy i,m afraid, like some other good bikes over the years. however yamaha bringing them out to highly priced in the first place really did the damage. if yamaha want to start to sell the S10 in big numbers they need to reduce the price & spent money on advertising "how reliable" the bike is because this is the chink in BMW,s armour , since they made the last of the 1150 cc models they have had some major problems [ and still on going with the new watercooled recalls ] "but" BMW are good at selling there product [ the long way round ] and spend a lot of money on the press [ ? ] as well as always being first to loan a bike to anyone who will get them noticed . . i have a S10 and love this bike but it just looks like i,m one of a small few that do , but i dont care because when i get up in the morning miles from anywere i know my S10 is going to get me home, this has not always been the case when i had BMW,s ......

I personally came in with very high expectations.
I wanted a mechanically bullet-proof, dense dealership availability, affordable farkles, easy on tires, easy simply maintenance...

What I got was everything AND MORE.!

My '12 allows me to pack it full and head to the mountains or hoon around the twisty bits, and get there and back with modest fuel consumption

and predictable wind management - something I was SCREAMING for.

I found it in my SinisterBlack Supa10 - and now with the AVC flash-mod, it'll go like stink and run even better than it ever has.

Watch for my report next week once I get the ECU back and get some miles on it.

This could possibly be the 2 wheels I'll own the longest.

I simply love this piece of iron.

I just love this bike. Admittedly, just as with the 2012 it has that "I hope this motor loses some of the stiffness and minor vibes and gains a more favorable feel" brand new feeling. And just as with the '12, I expect it to continually gain more of that ever-improving character. The S10 is like fine wine... It just gets better with time.

Maybe it's a good thing there's a few on the used market. At least those fortunate buyers won't have to endure a breakin period.

It's Spring and after 4 years of producing the Gen1 Tenere, we have a new one.

I too love my 12... but really want a 14ES. I have money down at two dealers. Also my 12 has over 63,000 miles and doing just fine. If they haven't brought out the 14 with all the changes I would be just fine and very happy with my 12. Hell I'll have both at the same time. If the ES isn't all it's supposed to be I'll keep the 12!

I bought my Tenere hoping to do more riding in the dirt, as my buddy was supposed to buy one too, but he later bought a Victory so his wife could ride more comfortably. Anyway I had no off-road motorcycle experience when I started, so the bike was awkward for me in a lot of situations. I then bought an old enduro and started riding desert areas around my house. I had no fear of damaging or dropping the enduro, so I learned a lot in a short period of time. When I got back on the Tenere in an off road setting, it didn't seem nearly as awkward due to what I learned on the enduro.

Although there are various reasons for selling, I agree with the poster who stated the off-road experienced guys are enjoying the S10 more.
