Ok... outfitting me new to me '13 Tenere. I like the Seat Concept seats and have them on my DR and Beta. However, I'm stuck on if I should get the gripper or embossed top on the Tenere. Gripper no question on my dirt bikes, but I'm thinking the Gripper
might not be the way to go on the Tenere as maybe its nice to move around a bit more when doing the longer rides.

What say you?

i have the seat concepts embossed. It works very well for me. And when on the road I found myself not moving around much at all. I'm a big fan of the seat.

I have the gripper and it's fine in all conditions. You can move around when you want to, no problem but it will keep your butt planted when you want that too. It also looks OEM.

I did the gripper on the KLR and the Tenere. When I want to move off the seat, I just have to lift up and move off to set up for a turn, it's perfect in my opinion.

I opted for the gripper cover, and have no regrets. I can move around the seat when I want to just fine.

The first thing I did with my new 2012 and new 2014 S10's was have the seats reupholstered with embossed covers. I don't care to sit on sand paper. The gripper keeps the trousers stuck in place, but the valuables inside the trousers do move and I found that uncomfortable. I don't have grippers on my dirt bikes either. Different strokes for different folks. ;D

either would work but on a large touring bike I find making it easier to move around more beneficial. I have their 'carbon fiber' pattern on my Bonneville and it seems to strike a nice balance between grip and slide for what it's worth.

I tried putting my "Bead-Rider' on the Tenere for a while, which lets you slide around a lot. I did not like it cause the Tenere is a sit straight up, with feet right under you type of bike. That means with a slippery seat, your arms are the only thing that holds you in place.
I don't like that at all, especially when you want to ride it hard.

Other bikes have a different seating positions to hold you in place. Cruisers, feet forward. Sport bikes, lean forward. Tenere you're just vertical.

I'd prefer the grippy surface. ::014::

Thanks for all the replies thus far. I admit I like the gripper/carbon fiber side look better if that matters... and I have to admit I'm one of those where looks do play at least a partial roll in my decision...albeit a very small one... but part of why I just can't pull the trigger on an RDL, beside the higher $$ of course.

Was just about to go ahead and pull the trigger on that but rider33 chimes in with the line of reasoning that has me waffling in the first place.... lol. Good to hear different points of view before dropping the $280. I'm going to do the pillion as well.

I'm down to deciding between Gripper/ carbon fiber vs all carbon fiber. I don't like the idea of the embossed being more tear sensitive. I also sometimes throw an air hawk under me and certainly understand what ace is saying also, although hopefully the new seat will limit those times where I need to do that.

Well crap.... have a friend with a suede top on his 1190 that he raves about and has suggested that.... but they absorb water I believe. Not sure about that.....

Seth did my seat with the rough "asphalt" cover. I like it a lot. It has a bit of stretch in it too. No problems moving around either. Send your seat back and have him change the cover out.

'sorry about that but you did ask :)
Let me put it this way: I have 4 bikes at the moment. One has a grippy seat, one has a slippery seat, and the other two are in the middle (I would put the carbon fiber seat in that middle category). I find the the slick/stick seats to be more of a pain generally, the 'normal/middle' ones to ve more flexible, YMMV.

Hopefully in the next several weeks, I am going to go to seat concepts and have the gripper with the carbon fiber done. I currently have a sargent seat (way to hard for my boney ***) and when I went to wearing Motoport pants, I started sliding all over the place. Have gotten a little better now that I expect it, but really do not like it.

So does anyone know if the gripper is the same material whether they are putting it on a diet bike or a Tenere? Guess I should shoot them an email or call and see if they have different levels of "gripper", but maybe someone hear knows. I just put a gripper on my Beta a couple of months ago so wonder if it's the same. It seems I read something along those lines in another thread but it was years old.

Thanks. Yep... I emailed Seat Concept and they stated in the past they did have a different gripper material but currently use the same material regardless of the bike it's going on.

Interesting variation in responses. I love my SC seat. Best mod for the $$ I have made to the bike. If I could do it all over again, I would go with the carbon vs gripper seating area. I like to move around occasionally. That grippy top is just too good at its job. I find that when i try to slide, by riding pants bunch up.

Thanks for all he replies. After all that.... I ended up snagging a rider and pillion Sargent from an inmate here for a bit less money than it would have taken for me to get the SC. If I don't like it... I'll sell it and go the SC route!!
