About time Yamaha sent a "bulletin" to the dealers about this, there seems to have been several cases on this site alone, which cannot represent more than a few percent of owners.
I assume they must have a "knowledgebase" online for dealers these days, if not they should, this would ensure punters do not end up paying for an ECU which ends up "fixing" the issue just because the wires got disturbed.
Many years ago I had a Turbo Seat that kept losing power, despite a fault code it went in 3 times before they fixed it, the last part (Air Flow Meter) was about £175 fitted - but they had already taken over £500 from me swapping out parts that did not fix the problem.
Why should their inability to diagnose cost me money
With this one you could go through a whole load of parts and sensors and still not solve the issue, if their was a Yamaha Knowledge Base a dealer could check they would find it real quick, just after the Hard Start and Headlight Harness.
Many years ago (pre internet) I worked for a Honda dealer and they used to send out bulletins in paper format which we would file under each bike, if a weird problem came along the first thing you would do is check the bulletins.
In this day and age a dealer should be able to put in the reg and get a list of all known issues / recalls etc for any bike in seconds, along with the bikes history - I know BMW do this for bikes and most car manufacturers do similar.
