It is amazing the difference in "economy"… Converted to US Dollars that makes it 12,527.00 USD… And if you look at some of the US ones going for say 9,000.00 USD its 5750.00 British Pounds.. I know the scale of economy are different, just something interesting to me…

In Europe we seem to get prices which are much higher than your side of the Atlantic :( Plenty of things are the same in $ as £ so even with import taxes / shipping it still can be cheaper to buy things in the Canada / USA.

I have noticed, it's one of the reasons I like to take holidays in the US - a UK pound goes a long way !

The '14's have flash to pass and 4 ways. The prices are higher in the UK and Europe for one sime reason.....VAT. Probably these days pushing 20%. There is really no way of getting around these fees either. On top of that, there are road taxes too....

Tis a steal... in the UK at least. But there are a number available which seem priced too low for my liking (resale in mind). A 2010 model with 14k done, extensive service history n 400 quids worth of extras just sold at a local dealer for 6.5k. No money... :-[

Wait till you get charged $21,990 AUD for a new one and people ask $17,500 AUD for a used 2010 model.

Welcome to Aus. (btw that converts to $15,336 USD for a used 2010.)

Beat that for extortion.

For a real laugh, have a look at what Touratech UK charge for parts ::008:: The answer is we pay more in £'s than our continental cousins pay in €'s. Though I've bought some of their stuff from a EU seller for €uro prices which for the pannier frames works out at about a £80 saving.

Agreed, I bought my Touratech pannier rails from a shop in Poland for £160 delivered.

Not at all, why is it you can buy the clutch basket in the states, pay to have it shipped to the UK, PAY THE VAT when it arrives and still save a huge amount of money.

A few years ago a bike magazine sent a journo to the US, he had a holiday, bought a Triumph in the US, imported it back to the UK, paid all of the taxes, VAT and registration fees and was still about £1k better off :exclaim:

They then rode it back to the UK factory where it originated to ask if Triumph could explain how he was still better off than he would have been buying it from a dealer a couple of miles up the road from the factory - they declined to comment.

This Island is known as "Rip Off Britain" for a reason, for decades we have been paying far more for vehicles, machinery, electronics equipment and pretty much everything else than in the US, and for that matter much of Europe.

Back in the late 90's grey importers were sourcing models from all over the world, including other parts of Europe, I bought a TL1000S for £6199 when the best UK price I could find was £7500 - and that was brought into the UK, taxes paid etc and the dealer was obviously still making a profit.

I think in Europe prices have crept up, and in the UK they have remained fairly flat which has reduced the differential, but VAT is not the only reason we pay more, as compared to the US we typically pay 30 - 50% more for most things, VAT is only 20% - and in the US they also have sales tax (about 6% I think) which is the same as VAT.

::026:: To what Rasher said.
It was called block exemption, and the UK was known as the 'Emerald Isle' for that reason. You could go over to Belgium, buy a RHD UK spec BMW/Audi, etc, from a dealer and would end up paying upto 30% less, grey import.
But also remember that Germany has 19% VAT, but still cheaper, also if you export, say to Switzerland they will deduct the 19%, try getting that from a UK supplier, let alone HMRC. You have to file via post then wait upto six weeks for them to respond only to tell you that they never received the request........ ::009::
