Just got this email from Sargent. Looks like we will have an option from them "soon" as well, that is good news! Who is closest???

::018::

Adventure Riders of the Super Tenere,

Sargent has gotten enough inquiries to begin investigating development of a seat for the Yamaha Super Tenere. We need to get a look at her so we can plan our next move. If you know anyone who lives in or near Jacksonville Florida or plans to ride through here that wouldn’t mind us getting a look at their bike, please pass on my info and/or let me know. Our 2 Yamaha dealers do not have one yet and don’t know when they will be taking delivery. I would like to get the initial “looksee” asap.

We have many inquiries from all of you and appreciate you interest in Sargent Cycle Products. Help me get the ball rolling and pass on the word. Write me for details about our loaner program at mary@sargentcycle.com.

Thanks so much and Ride Safe!

I would volunteer but I am on foam, and they could get very little information from my seat except that I've lost a few screws.

I had been in contact with Mary, who sent this out and after she told me that they weren't planning on making one at this time, I was in contact with Paul in their custom seat department. We discussed plans for him to modify a stock seat. Today I sent him a new seat that I bought from Yamaha and also sent Mary an email telling her that it was on its way and they could use it for a pattern. I only sent a new front seat, as that is all I use on my bike.

BTW, they would have had it two weeks ago, but twice the Yamaha parts warehouse sent us a package with the correct part number, but the wrong seat. Finally, today, they sent the correct seat and say they have straightened out their mess with regard to the part numbers on these seats.

Fred, I offered them mine 4 weeks ago, even offered to bring it to them and I got an email back that they had no intention of making them at this time. So I sent mine out. I guess they wanted to make sure they had a market.

I must be one of the lucky few. With a Beadrider on, my seat is great.

Re: Did Anyone Else Get This Email from Sargent?

If I was close by I would do it. I hate the stock seat. I have a Sargent seat on my DR650 and love it. I have logged several 500+ mile days on it. Jacksonvile is at least 10 hours from me and I have no rides scheduled in that direction. If they make one I will buy it.

I’ve agreed to run my scoot over to Jax early next week for Sargent's development engineers to look over.

In the mean time, Mary at Sargent asked if you could post up some thoughts on the existing seat and what you may be looking for in a new seat, such as what you like/don’t like in the stocker, ideas for features, designs, materials, etc. I know some of this may be scattered around the forum, but post here or link the thread. Bottom line, if you’re interested in a Sargent seat, here’s a chance to have some input…post up...

Is she planning to join the Forum? It would be cool to have them as a participating vendor here!!!

I have had four different Sargent seats ((ST1300, V-Strom, KLR650 and FJR1300) and loved every one of them! One feature I really liked that was available on some of them is the built in storage. Not sure if it will be doable with the SuoerT saddle, but it was nice to have. Some of mine also had the optional silver/grey welt, which I liked.

The main issue I think many of us have is the forward tilt/slope of the stock saddle.

Since we are supposed to be telling Sargent what is wrong with the seat I will provide what I can.

I weigh 212 lbs.

These are in order biggest to smallest issue:

Seat cover is too grippy, I have trouble moving around. That said some sliding resistance is good but this stuff has the traction of 80 grit sandpaper.

Seat has that marshmallow feel, very soft and squishy, nice for the first 20 miles but needs some firmer support underneath and perhaps more of a dish shape

Slight slope forward
The seat really needs a multiple density foam approach and a higher quality cover.

I like the seat I got from them for my VTR1000F. I would also be interested in the front seat for the S10. Don't care much for the Yamaha gripper material on long trips on hot days. Sargeant's material is great. Also noticed the slight slope. With a 30" inseam, I would prefer the slope be cured by lowering the rear of the seat, not raising the front.

Seat Cover: We can fix that easily.
Bad foam: We can fix that too. Our Atomic Super Cell is a great closed cell foam.
Forward slope: We will know which way we need to go on that after seeing the bike on Tuesday.

Fixing the slope depends largely on the pan and the bikes OEM design. Usually we level from the back of the seat rather than adding to the front so we don't make it any taller than it already is. Once in a great while, something under the seat pan won't allow this unless there is a large amount of foam allowance in that area of the seat.

I will know more when we get a look at her Tuesday. (Thanks to the members of this forum for posting my original email, one of your memebers has agreed to ride up and let us have our first look at her. )

Thanks to all involved!
