Anybody out there tried the Sargent seat on our ST? I'm looking at one for long distance comfort (also with Heat! ;)). Your thoughts/experience greatly appreciated ::013::

I've got 7000 miles on mine with a few 700 plus days. Very pleased with the Sargent seat on mine.

I had Sargent reshape and recover my stock seat. A huge improvement for not so much money. I am totally happy with it.
For what its worth when I was looking at the link for the guy that has 130,00 on his '12 S10 the first thing I checked was what seat he was using, Sargent. That says something.

I picked up my new Sargent seat, installed it and bungeed the stocker on the back of the bike. Rode less than a hundred miles, and put the stocker back on. Way too hard for me and made my butt sore. Sold the Sargent on the internet. End of story.

I had this done also and liked it. When the Sargent World Sport seats came out, I got one of them and it was too hard for me. Later exchanged it for the version 2 World Sport seat, but it also was a bit too hard for me. The original that I had them reshape with their foam and recover is a better seat for me. Having said that, I recently bit the bullet and had a Russell Day-Long seat made on another seat base and I think it will be my seat of choice. Lots more $$, and a bit ugly, but it works. Therefore, I will take some pics today and offer up the very nice Sargent rebuilt seat for sale for a reasonable price plus exchange of a OEM seat or something that I could put on the bike when it comes time to trade again. I'll try to post later today in the For Sale section.

Seats are totally subjective, I had a Sargant on my KLR and it was ok, I liked how I could move around on it a bit more but that was all, I still ended up needing a pad on it.

So far a regular seat pad or lambskin (have used both) Seem to work well on the tenere seat for all day riding, the later is not comfortable, but it is not uncomfortable either, kind of odd to explain.

I would not waste my money on another aftermarket seat, clearly other opinions very :)

I had a Sargent on my 2012, and moved it to my 2014. At least for my butt, it works. The seat was quite firm when new, but became less so once broken in.

Best,

Chris

Some of this depends on rider weight and preference, riding style and quite frankly, your definition of long distance. If you simply want something to make those 300-500 mile days not a literal pain in the rear, the Sargent might be just the ticket. If you want something for 1000 mile days, move to Laam or Russell and you likely won't ever regret it. Especially if you're over 225 or so pounds in gear.

I've had a very good Cee Bailey seat, but it couldn't handle my 260# on 100F plus days. The Russell Day Long does. I put 150 on the previous RDL on an FJR and was happy with that too. I made a mistake in trying something else and it cost me a tidy sum of money, but the guy that bought it loves it. He has different preferences than I do, which likely has something to do with that.

Seat comfort is so variable you really just have to try them. They come up for sale used often enough you can afford to buy and sell until you find the right porridge. The sargent didn't work for me but the corbin did. I've had great luck with sargents on other rides so that's not a slam against sargent.

I have a Sargent seat...got 30K on it; wish I knew about Seth Laam Seats...cheaper than a Russell Day long and everybit the quality...

Check him out:
http://laamseats.com/

He's getting my money next month.

Nothing is as good as a Russell...

I had Sargent on a BMWRT, piping gave me saddle sores on a Wisconsin to Florida Keys and back, my RDL I regularly do 1000+ days... May be expensive but you use it every moment your riding. Oh and they do and always have had a unique suspension system no one duplicates...

I had one and didn't care for it. The way it's dished out it sat me too far back from the handlebars. Probably better for a big guy, I'm just 5'7".
