Hmmm I got the notification that the Sargent seat is now available... I'm still on a long trip. I signed up for the pre-order because on all bikes in the past I have needed an after market seat and Sargent did it for my ass. However I must say that I now have 27,000 miles on the stock seat and I'm not cursing it so... I may not need this Sargent seat after all.

Wohoo !! Just mounted up my new Sargent Seat - looks great the silver piping off sets the side panels. The SO seat is MUCH wider so I'm hoping she will give this one a passing grade (she mucho hated the stock seat) as for me I'm pleased with the looks and for sitting on it making vroom-vroom noise's (I had a couple beers when FedEx showed up so no riding for me - till tommorrow) On Sunday I'll go for a ride and see how it feels.

Looks great! I ordered the Blue Piping. It should be here Monday or Tuesday hopefully. I will put up some pictures when it gets here.

+1. Looking forward to riding impressions. The silver looks good, but I think the blue piping looks even better.

I thought I'd go run a few errands and test out the seat. Just about 20 miles total really but I had a few stops to make. On my way home I realized I completely forgot I was testing the seat and was so into my errands. To me, that means it's a hit. On the BMS seat I was 'feeling' it the whole time, searching for the right spot to sit....

Not anywhere near even a short-term review but I'm liking what it feels like at the moment.

Got mine too. I think it is much improved over stock..especially the seating position. The tank slant is gone and there is definitely more seating area. Happy customer.

I also got one the pre-order list but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I've got a couple of questions hopefully someone here can help me with.

How well does the seat pan fit the bike? A friend claimed the Sargent on his V-Strom was loose compared to the stocker.

How grippy and or slippery is the Sargent vinyl? I may be in the minority but I love the no-slip finish on the Yamaha seat. I always felt like I was slipping and sliding on my last bike.

fit is perfect, much better than corbin.... ::009::
No looseness on high setting
Material is slipier than stock, but not as slippy as a corbin

"Houston we have a problem" :'(, I took the new seat out for a 150 mile ride and within the first couple of miles the back left corner of the drivers seat seemed to fall down a couple of inches? I stopped removed the seat - looked it over, all seemed good, resecured the seat figured I didn't catch the plastic hook correctly (on the rear of seat).....continued riding. At about the 100 mile mark (lots of long sweepers in between) it happened again. After removal of the seat and checking it thoroughly - It seems as if the aft left seat bumper is sliding off the bumper stop on the bike which in turn allows the seat to drop. After getting home I compared the stock seat to the Sargent - compared measurements of bumpers, seat pan flex etc with no difference noted......until I checked the plastic hook on the Sargent - it's much thinner and flexes a great deal compared to the stocker. I surmise that sliding around in the seat on the turns, allows flexing enough to let the rubber bumper to slide off the stop. I'll confirm on my next ride, overall I like the seat but if this is the cause I will need to talk with Sargent. Anybody else having this problem?

I ordered one on the day they became available, and had it in hand and on the bike a few days later. Fit and finish are great, the little document holder pocket is a nice touch, and I really like the firmer foam in the seating area; it is much more supportive than the stock material. The vinyl is more slippery than the grippy stock covering, though not as slick as other seats I've had; I do wish it were a little less slick, but it's not a deal-breaker.

I haven't experienced the issue that N2 Overspeed notes above, and the seat seems to fit just as well as the stock, holding in place firmly so far. I'll keep an eye out for this, but I haven't had the seat shift at all, even in the twisty stuff. I'm a big dude, so I'd think that if anyone is going to test the limits of the seat pan and hook in the turns, it'd be me.

But so far, this has been a big thumbs-up purchase for me, in terms of comfort, performance, quality, and customer service. I have no regrets so far.

When I mounted the seat I moved around on the seat, edge to edge, front to back. I noticed a flex on the back portion of the seat that did not seem to be the foam cushioning. I wont know for sure until I get out on an extended ride. Other than that the fit and finish is awesome and it feels way more comfortable than my corbin.

Yes I have! I posted the problem and fix on the other Sargent thread. Here is a copy:

I have the seat and use it in the high position. I do not notice any difference. For me it is just right. (6"4" 33" inseam)
But there is a problem with the seat pan in the high position!
As most of you already know, the Tenere has a seat adjuster plate that allows two seat heights. When the adjuster is in the high position, it aligns 4 posts that are about 7/8” in diameter and an inch high with 4 of the 6 cushions on the seat pan that are about the same size and shape. Given the small area of the posts and cushions, they must align very closely to work right.
Problem:
The problem is that with the seat in the high position, after riding 30 minutes to an hour depending on the temperature, the left rear rubber cushion slips off of the post and drops the seat in that corner about 1”. When weight is removed from the seat it pops back up. But as soon as weight is reapplied it slips off again. If the seat is allowed to cool down. It will work correctly until it warms up.

Cause:
The Sargent seat pan is less ridged than the stock pan. This is easily observed by flexing the two pans in ones hands. The stock pan seems to have a little more robust stiffening ridges, and seems to be made of a stiffer material. At any rate the Sargent pan is just stiff enough until it gets warm. Once warm, it flexes enough to allow the cushion to slip off the post.
The Tenere has it’s radiator on the left side and a fair amount of heat is flowing down the left side of the bike. The rider can feel it but it is not to the point of being uncomfortable, at least not to me.
So what happens is the seat pan gets warm from the rider on top, the motor heat rising, and the radiator (left side). That makes the pan less stiff and at some point it flexes enough to allow the rubber cushion to slip off the post. The pan is not hot but warmer than the ambient air. My guess is 100 to 125 degrees F.
Fix:
It needs more testing but I did around 40 miles last night with this and no issues so far. It is just a short piece of 1” PCV pipe over the back left post. The length is .725”. It effectively just increases the size (surface area) of the post so the rubber cushion does not slip off. If you look close you can see a small notch in the bottom that I made to clear the small rib on the adjustment plate.
I first tried a longer section of tubing thinking it would lock the post and cushion together but the post and cushion do not line up correctly. They are about 3/16” out of alignment so the tubing cannot slide over both, and that misalignment may contribute to the slipping off problem. With this shorter section, it is at the level or just a little higher than the post.

Is anyone else seeing this issue?
I know at least one other person called Sargent about it."
Hope this helps:
John

Yes, as of yesterday because I sent the all of the above to them. I called first and explained it to Bob and he asked me to put it in an email so he could get it to his R & D guys. I have not heard back after the emails so I hope they got them. I am sure there are a dozen ways to fix this, the above was just the quickest and simplest I could come up with. If that hadn't worked I was thinking of just making a larger diameter cushion. That should work as well and I expect Sargent will do something like that. Keep in mind that is not an issue in the lower position.

I hope Sargent fixes the seat pan or bumper. I want to order one but now I am afraid to until the fix this problem. I keep the seat in the high position so I would hate to have it dropping. Once it starts it will also do it and wear out faster.

I talked to Sargent today they told me there's only 2 people that have so far complained about the seat falling. they just got a super tenere in their shop and they are looking into this issue. They said if they find a problem they will come up with a fix . They told me to wait a week before ordering the seat to see what they come up with. Seems like a real good group of guys at Sergeant

So, has Sargent come up with any resolution to the seat pan issue? My pre-registration discount expires on Friday and I'm undecided whether to order one or not.
