So my yamaha bags just came in. I pulled the locks from under my seat and made the mistake of inserting my key into one of the cylinders. Now i cant remove the key from the lock! Any idea why it wont come out? I dont want to force it and break the key. Also, what is the tool for disassemblying the locks. None of my torx bits fit. Thanks for any help.

I had same issues. The key will come out when you remove the back plate. It takes a security bit available at Auto Zone or other tool places, harder to find than a torx in my experience. Good luck. Also the instructions I dont feel are real clear but you need to remove the little screw in the back of each lock housing (on the bag) I guess its a shipping screw to prevent the bags from accidently locking??

Oh, by the way you will need a larger one for the bag mounts on the bike. I found one as part of a set at Lowes. I think it was a size 45.

Small tamper proof torx on the locks is a T10

Larger tamper proof torx on rack bolts is a T50 or you could take a punch and hammer or dremel and get rid of the center pin it really is not needed for this application. T50 tamper proof can be found but they are rare.

Don.t forget to lube the channel where the lock plate rotates before you complete install or the locks will be notchy and hard to turn with the key.

Don't panic, I did the same thing, the key has to be in the middle to come out not at either extreme position lock to lock so to speak. Turn the key till it is in the middle of the rotation and it will come right out.

I can't account for the discrepancy between what Roy reports and what my experience was with the size of the bit. here is the kit I bought at Lowe's. It has no size 50 and it worked for me???

A T45 will work but the correct size is T50.

I got a set of bits off Amazon.com for about $10 that included the T50.

Ha! I'm glad I'm not the only one who did this! Fiddled with getting the key out for about an hour then it finally came out! Not exactly sure how I got it out......

And can anybody explain why the screws ON THE INSDE are tamperproof?!
I guess there's some value to preventing a thief stealing the whole box as well as its contents if the lid were left or forced open? Often cases the bag is more valuable than anything I have in there.

::025:: That's as good a reason as any! I mean, considering that ANYbody can get the tools to remove the "tamperproof" screws. It only inconveniences the honest folk.
