It's with great sadness I've been instructed to post this about a good friend and riding buddy. Now the dust has settled and swelling going down Greg of this forum has asked me to inform everyone of his accident just over two weeks ago. I am not going into great detail but going to keep a long story short. He was riding in devon at a leisurely 55mph on a straight road when totally out of the blue an oncoming car turned in front of him into a lay-by. Greg had nowhere to go and slammed into the side of the car flying over it and landing 25 yards down the road. End result was Rukka gear being cut off him and a flight in a helicopter to hospital and a totalled S10. Now the worst bit! two broken wrists and one of them looking like a jigsaw puzzle, broken thumb, torn ligaments in his right knee and damaged foot. He's had a 7 hour op last week and too early to say how that went but we do know he's got more ops ahead and a long rehab period ahead. There's a few of you on here know about this off the Tiger 800 forum and those that do know him know he's a fighter . He's got his ipad and can see what's going on but don't expect to hear anything from him just yet!!

Thanks for the messages of support its much appreciated..

Ive had bone gratfts from my right hip to replace some bone to make a wrist.. Its plated solid at the moment and extremly painful.

My left wrist has been plated and screwed and is in a standard cast

Right knee needs an op but their waiting for some stabilty with my knee ligaments before putting screws in that one as i cant use crutches! So ive got a high tech knee brace on there which has to be worn 24/7.

Ive broken L3 in my lower spine thats stable and seeing the neurosurgeon next week..

My left ankle has a chip in it and is swollen and sore but I can hobble about..

The driver admitted responsibility immeadiatly... There were several witnesses and I had the best care anyone could ask for...

I was flown from the scene to Plymouth Derriford hospital which is a major trauma center and has one of the top wrist and hand surgeons in the country. Ive had two operations and am expecting several more over the next few months and years.

I'll never be able to ride again due to the extensive damage and also they had to remove a considerable ammount of bone from my hip so that area is especially weak now...

However the Tiger 800 guys and my regular riding buddies are paying regular visits to make me. Laugh and sgenerally take the piss!!

I'm on some super duper pain killers and drip.... Which keep the pain bearable.. Sleeping is an issue as I cant sleep on my side and can only sleep on my back for short spells...

i have a plan for future thrills and to keep up with you lot and the guys I regular ride with.. Just watch this space.

I'm sorry that i wont be organising any rides and obviously someone will have to step up to the plate if theres to be a S10 gathering next year..

I'll keep you updated but as PloughJockey is a close mate then he'll probably be posting about me more often than I am..!

Once again thanks for the comments and support...

Greg

Great to hear from you and glad you are on the mend. I know the wrist issue from a deer hit. Plate and screws in one and at some point the other will be fused. Long road my friend. Just keep pushing forward. Time heals all including the body. A lot of great lighter weight bikes out there. Might be one in your future.

Take care!

Glad to hear from you, must have taken an age to type that with a pencil between your teeth! Sounds like a long road to recovery but it could have been so much worse, demand only female nurses for bed baths!

You can't keep a rider down Greg. You will find a way. There is a wheelchair guy on another forum that rides a trike. Anything is possible. Use your imagination to think up a ride while you are doing your PT and operations. Lord knows you will have some time, so stimulate that mind, mate, you should have no problem there, eh? ;) There are a few Super Ten hacks out there, but there are all kinds of interesting options on three wheels, never you mind what you can create with mostly off the shelf items and a skilled welder helping you with a frame.

I wish you as little pain as possible, as quick healing as possible and as full a recovery as possible. Most of all, I wish you the ability to maintain a positive outlook and the strength to overcome the odds. F**k what the Docs say you will be capable of, often it's really about how hard you work to prove them wrong. The wife had a catastrophic accident years back. She rides still, but it took work to get there and she far exceeded what the docs said she would be capable of. Your main limit is YOU. And don't forget to let your mates help when and where they can. We are all pulling for you and wishing you the best.

I was fortunate to only break one wrist, but it was a doozy of a break! We're talking exoskeleton while it healed...glad to hear you're on the mend, and ditto to what Eric said, it's mind over matter, and if you don't mind, it don't matter!

Holy cow - That sounds painful. REALLY sorry to hear what you're going through and have lots of respect for your positive attitude. That and your buddies are obviously what'll get you through. Looking forward to what you have planned for the future.
